"There's a Wholeness to the Sound"
Arcam has a long established history of building sensational amplifiers for serious music lovers. The company enjoys a global reputation for producing very high performance hi-fi systems at real world prices using advanced technologies and design. The new A28 75-watt-per-channel integrated amplifier is Arcam's latest offering in the mid-priced sector, offering astounding sound quality and an exceptional specification.
"Above all, there's a wholeness to the sound that's not always present in the performance of affordable electronics, a sense that all the various instruments and voices do after all, belong to the same musical phenomenon," reports England's Hi-fi Choice magazine.
Using wide-band power amplifier technology and ultra stable thermal management from the top-of-the-line A38 amplifier, the A28 provides every detail and musical nuance with breathtaking accuracy. The 75-watt-per channel output at 8 ohms increases to a full 130-watts at 4 ohms. The current feedback design ensures wide bandwidth for high-resolution audio. The fully discrete transistor power amp stages use temperature compensation for stable, reliable operation.
Premium Studio Components
The preamplifier section uses premium studio components that ensure extreme fidelity and ultra low noise performance, including a volume control stage with +/- 0.05dB channel matching. The use of electronic controls for volume and input selection means that delicate audio signals take an extremely short physical path through the A28. This design strategy also ensures long-term reliability and access to advanced features such as individual input trims, independent record selection and 'processor mode' for integration with AV preamps.
Six Inputs Plus a Phono Stage
Six line level inputs are provided plus a very high quality moving magnet phono stage that will bring out the best in your vinyl treasures. The A28 also includes preamplifier outputs for bi-amping capabilities plus a separate line level output for second room use. Two pairs of individually selectable gold plated speaker outputs are also provided. Electro Magnetic Interference is damped using Arcam's proprietary 'Mask of Silence' technologies to ensure that even the smallest details in the recording are reproduced faithfully.
The oversize toroidal AC power transformer uses dual rectified power amp supplies for reduced ground noise and separate smoothing for each channel to reduce crosstalk. An independently rectified and regulated preamp power supply contributes to the ultra-quiet operation.
"Above all, there's a wholeness to the sound that's not always present in the performance of affordable electronics, a sense that all the various instruments and voices do after all, belong to the same musical phenomenon."
