"This is the Only Amp for Me"
Hand-built by HiFiMAN craftsmen, the new EF-6 flagship headphone amplifier provides audiophile quality for the most demanding listeners. And it will drive even the most demanding headphones. Weighing in at 24 lbs, the robust chassis of the EF-6 is made of high quality, brushed aluminum and steel with aluminum heat sinks. Fit and finish hint at the amplifier's exceptional performance under the hood.
"Wonderfully Lush and Smooth Sounding Presentation"
"Depth was great, with the stage clearly extending slightly in front of the head and well outside the drivers. Lateral image placement and image specificity were first rate," reports Skylab in an InnerFidelity.com review for August 23, 2012.
"I don’t want to give the EF-6 Back. I cannot walk into my room and stomach not seeing it sitting there on my desk, reports Julius in a December 15, 2012 review for Headphonia.com. "This is the only amp for me. I’ve never said this before about any amplifier I have ever reviewed or gotten a chance to demo.
"What surprised me most was the wonderfully lush and smooth sounding presentation particularly when paired with the HE6," notes marcusd, Headphonics.com, September 15, 2013. "Not a thin sharp note in sight and a much more engaging sound that reeks of quality when those two are matched."
Five Watts of Pure Class A
The amplifier section boasts a huge five watts of pure 'Class A' solid-state power featuring wide bandwidth, low distortion, and a signal-to-noise ratio greater than 95db. The front end of the EF-6 consists of an audiophile-grade preamplifier with a hand-made step attenuator and perfectly matched resistors for symmetrical output. Transistors in the output stage are Toshiba K214 J77.
These features combine to make the EF-6 the clear choice for discriminating music lovers seeking a no-compromise headphone amplifier that is priced well below competing units offering comparable performance. The front panel includes one 1/4” and one 4-pin XLR headphone jack. The rear panel provides two sets of RCA inputs plus one pair of RCA outputs.
"As a headphone amplifier, our new EF-6 provides the perfect solution to properly drive low efficiency headphones such as our reference HE-6 with planar magnetic drivers." explained Dr. Fang Bian, Founder and President of HiFiMAN. "With true 5 watts of Class A power, the EF-6 has a warm, relaxing sound with lifelike detail and wonderful musicality. Though the EF-6 is designed for high-end applications, really this amplifier can make any headphone sound much better."
Founded by Dr. Fang Bian in 2007, HiFiMAN is widely regarded as one of the leading manufacturers of high performance headphones and portable audio products. HiFiMAN is especially known for its critically acclaimed planar magnetic headphones that feature state-of-the-art driver technology. The company also designs and manufactures best-in-class dynamic in-ear drivers, which have also garnered awards and rave reviews.
"Soundstage was as good as I have heard from the HE-6, which is to say about as good as headphones are capable of. Depth was great, with the stage clearly extending slightly in front of the head and well outside the drivers. Lateral image placement and image specificity were first rate."

"I don’t want to give the EF-6 Back. I cannot walk into my room and stomach not seeing it sitting there on my desk…
"This is the only amp for me. I’ve never said this before about any amplifier I have ever reviewed or gotten a chance to demo. Sure, the high end game end all amps in the $5,000 range are more clear and spacious, but they end up being useless on Orthos due to the staging qualities. The Price is right and the sound presentation is set up specifically for Orthos. The Dark Side is strong with this one…and I am going to cry like a little girl when I have to box everything back up and ship all the loaners back. I just cannot see myself without the HE-6 for Jazz and anything laid back."

"The EF6 is $1600 well spent if you are after a powerful amplifier for your planers and inefficient dynamic cans. What surprised me most was the wonderfully lush and smooth sounding presentation particularly when paired with the HE6. Not a thin sharp note in sight and a much more engaging sound that reeks of quality when those two are matched."
