"Brains and Beauty"
The diminutive Monitor Audio Silver RX1 is configured to offer an impressively natural, rhythmic sound in a beautifully compact and practical form. Standing at less than 12-1/2-inches tall, the RX1 will deliver faithful crystal-clear definition and power from just about anywhere. Perfect for music and film sound where space is at a premium, the RX1 provides elite Monitor Audio quality to refresh and enliven your system.
The Monitor Audio Silver RX1 is a compact two-way speaker using a rear ported bass reflex with HiVe II port system. It boasts an 6" C-CAM RST cone mid-bass driver and a 1" C-CAM gold dome tweeter.
"Praise Monitor Audio's Silver range," says What Hi-Fi? Sound And Vision magazine for March 2010 "The RX1s go seriously loud, too Brains and beauty: what a package."
"If you place a high priority on sonic resolution and detail the RX1s might make you wonder why people pay thousands of dollars for speakers," notes Tom Martin in Playback Magazine for April 2010. "Expect a lively, dynamic, and well-defined sound, but without a painful or aggressive character."
"A Classy, High-Quality Package"
"If you're in the market for a new home-theater speaker system, or even a pair of stereo speakers that offer a genuine taste of the high end in a classy, high-quality package, you owe it to yourself to give the Silver RX system a serious audition," notes Aron Garrecht in his June 2010 review for Soundstage Network. "Highly recommended!"
Ceramic-Coated Aluminum Magnesium Drivers
By refining its computer-aided Finite Element Analysis (FEA), Monitor Audio has developed new ways to shape its core driver material for even greater fidelity. C-CAM (Ceramic-Coated Aluminum/Magnesium) is very light and very strong, and so is ideal for the driver cones.
Monitor Audio's C-CAM gold dome tweeter now extends high frequency performance to beyond 35 kHz, enabling you to enjoy the full potential of current and future wide-band HD audio and home theater formats. A newly damped rear chamber provides greater control for a smoother more accurate response.
Advanced FEA simulations have also helped the process of fine tuning the RST (Rigid Surface Technology) C-CAM mid-bass drivers, originally created for Monitor Audio's celebrated Gold Reference speakers and now incorporated by the Silver RX range. Their super-stiff dimpled profiles are more resistant to break-up under high drive conditions and so produce a wider range of purer frequencies. Each driver's rigid, non magnetic cast polymer chassis is vented to improve airflow cooling and to equalize pressure around the driver motor, resulting in the ability to play louder and cleaner.
Bolt-through Driver Design
Single bolt-through driver fixings have the dual effect of improving cabinet rigidity while further reducing vibration at the driver/cabinet interface. By this innovative method, drivers are mounted on a single tensioned through-bolt, which is secured to the back of the cabinet. The bolt not only acts as a rigid cabinet brace to reduce box coloration, it removes the need for conventional driver fixings as well, effectively decoupling the driver and baffle to eliminate another source of unwanted resonance. The result is a more fluid communication of mid-range frequencies, and with the absence of front driver fixings, a cleaner more refined overall appearance, especially in tandem with RX's 'invisible' magnetic grille location.
HiVe II (High Velocity) Reflex Port
Developed for the flagship Gold Signature range, the HiVe II reflex port is shaped to have the same effect on airflow as a gun-barrel on a bullet. Rifled groves inside the port help to accelerate the flow and reduce turbulence, so that air moves in and out of the port more efficiently for a faster more dynamic bass response.
"If you place a high priority on sonic resolution and detail the RX1s might make you wonder why people pay thousands of dollars for speakers. Expect a lively, dynamic, and well-defined sound, but without a painful or aggressive character."
"This RX1 system sounds amazingly musical, so much so that it is hard to imagine any system doing much better."
"A speaker that can allow you to hear each line, and know which instrument is which, can fairly be characterized as something special. The RX1 qualifies."
"The Monitor Audio RX1 is an exceptional speaker, no doubt about it. Its combination of midrange clarity and smoothness gets to the essence od a lot of music."
- Tom Martin, Playback Magazine, April 2010
"Praise Monitor Audio's Silver range: the rigid, weighty MDF cabinets look superb. Edges are rounded smoothly, drivers are flush to the cabinet and every screw is cleanly placed. Top marks."
"They sound special too. Notes have punch and texture, vocals are handled confidently. The bass is capable of impressive weight and depth, and provides the foundation for a broad, dynamic soundstage. The RX1s go seriously loud too."
"Brains and beauty: what a package."
- What Hi-Fi? Sound And Vision, March 2010
"The RX series system perfectly reproduced the four different sounds in Fast and Furious (roaring engines, squealing tires, throbbing music, and pummeling of lowlifes by Vin Diesel). Had I been blindfolded for this test, I'd have thought I was listening to a high-end system designed for a 25-seat home theater."
- Brent Butterworth, Sound + Vision, May 2010
"Time and again over the past few months I've been thoroughly impressed by Monitor Audio's Silver RX system, and will be sad to see them leave. My experiences of music, and especially of movie, through these speakers have left me with a strong impression: This system has the uncanny ability to make possible an emotional connection to the sounds it reproduces."
"If you're in the market for a new home-theater speaker system, or even a pair of stereo speakers that offer a genuine taste of the high end in a classy, high-quality package, you owe it to yourself to give the Silver RX system a serious audition. Highly recommended!"

|So much sweeter than the price merits|
I purchased the RX1s to go along with a NAD D 3020. The NAD D 3020 is an amazing little integrated amp that pairs nicely with my iMac. And I have a Dynaudio Sub250 subwoofer. Im listening to a variety of lossless, ACC, and HD Tracks recordings. Im using Audirvana as my listening engine. I first purchased the Wharfedale Diamond 10.1s. I also purchased the B&W 685s. The B&Ws didnt work at all - the sound was glaringly harsh. By comparison the Wharfedales where a little bit sleepy - too laid-back, leaving a fair amount of musical detail out of the picture. Now to the RX1S... I purchased the RX1s in hopes of finding a warm sweet sound. Joe at Audio Advisor directed me right away toward the RX1s. I had read many reviews that these speakers are detailed yet not edgy. In fact now that they are burned in, I agree that these speakers are sensational. This modest little system that I have puts out sound with layers of detail. Good bass is produced even when the Dynaudio sub is disconnected, however adding a little extra bass from the sub brings out a more fully rounded sound. Eva Cassidy voice becomes holographic on Live from Blues Alley. You can hear the weight and timbre of Keith Jarretts jamming piano at his Koln concert. Bruce Cockburns Tibetan Side Of Town sounds intense, and the chimes midway through the song literally float through the air. Miles Davis Kind of Blue sounds incredible - Flamenco Sketches is pure pleasure. This little system is amazing me! A few years back I owned a nice Cary SLI80 tube amp paired with Von Schweikert VR-4jr speakers. While this modest system is not quite to that level, it is a whole lot closer than it has the4 right to be. Ive heard great sounding equipment. Ive owned great equipment. But this system was planned with a different objective - get a great sound but on a much more modest scale for a smaller listening room. Yet it still had to have a sweet, warm, full sound. This system has checked all the boxes for me! If youre sitting on the fence about getting the RX1s - just do it. The same could be said about the NAD D3020 - WOW it sounds sweet! Add a decent sub and you have a home run system that wont break the bank and will fit into a small space. A big thanks to Joe and the Monitor Audio RX1 - I couldnt be happier!

My listening room is the middle-sized bedroom in an old-fashioned 3BR ranch home in the burbs, and it doubles as a dressing room and library, so not much space to spare. Over the last year I put together a new stereo consisting of the Marantz 8004 integrated amp and disc player. I had previously bought a pair of the Monitor Audio Silver RX-2 speakers but they proved to be too much for the smallish room, and they ended up happily in my living room, Then I bought their little brothers, the Silver RX-1 speakers, and got them at a factory-refurbished discount from AA. They turned out to be a perfect match for the Marantz pair, providing plenty of robust sound along with a fairly deep and wide soundstage. Imaging is excellent, as with the many spotlighted instruments in the Rimsky-Korsakov Scheherezade or the Ravel Bolero. I have several of the Edgar Meyer collaborations, and his double bass comes across as full and woody such as on the Goat Rodeo Sessions. Other chamber music was equally well presented such as the delicate harpsichord in a Bach concerto or the mandolins in a Vivaldi double concerto. Jazz combos and female voices like Diana Krall wre right in the wheelhouse midrange for these speakers. They did surprisingly well on louder fare such as the Allman Brothers at Fillmore East, with very good placement of the two lead guitars on either side of center, the two drum kits farther out to the sides, organ in the middle. Im nearing retirement age with no children in the house, so I cannot comment on more modern pop music, but I am partial to acoustic instruments in a real space and these speakers really deliver. I am still in the honeymoon period when I cant wait to get home from work and get the yard chores done before my better half gets home and I have maybe enough time to play through one album. These speakers are providing many smiles and the most pleasurable listening I have had in my home. Highly recommended for mid-power integrated amps in mid-sized rooms.
