Magnificent Sound

This is a great pair of speakers. I use them as a stereo pair in my living room where they reside in an open-back cabinet. I have a large CD collection and was looking for full-bodied sound without resorting to tower speakers, and the Monitor Silver RX2s can really deliver the bass that I love, no subwoofer needed. To refer to them as compact is misleading, as they will be too large for most speaker stands with smallish platforms; I used hefty square bar stools for early auditioning. I listen to a wide variety of mostly acoustic music such as orchestral, jazz, big band, folk, bluegrass and choral. All of it is well fleshed-out with these speakers. Albums such as the Jackson Browne/David Lindley live album Love is Strange, World of Trombones by Slide Hampton, Aereo-Plain by John Hartford, In the Digital Mood by the Glenn Miller Band, the a cappella O Magnum Mysterium by Morton Lauridsen, all sounded better than I have ever heard them before. They also really rocked out with Fat Man in the Bathtub by Little Feat, and another favorite, Etta James singing Ball & Chain from the Janis Joplin tribute album Blues Down Deep. Just last night it was Appalachia Waltz with Mark OConnor, Yo-Yo Ma and Edgar Meyer. Magnificent sound, mesmerizing. I dont have an unlimited budget but I am a speaker nut and am very happy with these under-$1,000 speakers, which replaced a pair of Wharfedale Diamond 9.2 speakers, quite good in their own right. I am driving them with a Pioneer 5.1 AV receiver in stereo mode. I am nearing retirement age and expect to live happily with the Silver RX2s for many years to come. Highly recommended!
