Built for Today and for the Future
Built for the future, NAD's Masters Series M12 isn’t a typical DAC and it isn’t a typical preamplifier. The M12 is an ultra-high resolution digital audio hub that boasts a full roster of audiophile-grade features that leverage some of the most advanced digital audio thinking on earth. It combines a unique combination of preamplifier functionality with a cutting edge DAC and also offers upgradeable MDC architecture.
The M12's 24-bit/192 kHz asynchronous USB offers modern connectivity options from any source imaginable. And NAD’s DirectDigital™ processing and a 'Class A' buffer guarantee real-time, 24-bit accuracy from the very first to the very last bit. The M12 interfaces with all digital or analog musical sources and renders them perfectly to power amplifiers and active loudspeakers.
The M12's DirectDigital™ amplification technology offers the highest level of performance. The 35-bit data path boasts 24-bit coefficients and 62-bit accumulation, as well as dithered truncation back to 35-bits after DSP functions. This circuit topology guarantees the overall 24-bit accuracy of the M12.
Thanks to this incredibly high degree of resolution, all preamp functions can be accomplished with a new level of precision, and all in the digital domain. This eliminates the noise and distortion prone to analog circuits. Because of the super high resolution, even 24-bit files are processed without truncation or loss of information.
The M12 offers plenty of connectivity for both your digital and analog sources, letting you access music from a huge range of sources, from computer or Blu-ray player to FM tuner and more. On the digital side, the standard inputs include AES/EBU digital, asynchronous 24/192 USB, coaxial and optical digital inputs. The analog connections are just as well appointed, offering both balanced XLR-type and single-ended RCA-type line level inputs.
Rounding out the picture, a pure 'Class A' buffer using the latest generation of Super OP Amps provides low impedance balanced and single-ended connections to power amplifiers or active loudspeakers. A wireless remote controls all functions and IR repeaters, 12V triggers, and a serial port to make integration with advanced control systems a snap.
Fine Tune Your System
Because of the M12's massive computing power and its exceptionally high-resolution signal path, some interesting features have also been incorporated to further perfect the listening experience. Want to add a subwoofer to your system? The M12 includes a second order high pass and low pass crossover with selectable frequency, giving you a huge amount of control over your system. You can even select different frequency knees for each filter. This level of flexibility and precision is made possible by NAD's highly perfected DirectDigital-series architecture.
Future Forward MDC
One of NAD’s most innovative technological advancements is MDC, Modular Design Construction. MDC does away with the kind of obsolescence that dogs most AV components in a world of constantly changing formats and technology. MDC provides a simple upgrade path to add future features and functionality via separately available modules.
Owners of the NAD M12 can add an optional DD HDM-1 HDMI Module with three inputs and one output (3D video pass- through) and/or a network audio module called DD BluOS, which incorporates music management software that is controlled with an iOS or Android device. The DD BluOS MDC Module allows streaming of a variety of music services, HD streaming from a NAS device, and TuneIn Internet radio, which lets you enjoy thousands of radio stations from all over the world. It also gives you full control of your music library. Integrated WiFi/Ethernet and aptX Bluetooth connections are also offered with the DD BluOS Module.
