"Nomad Hits One Into the Bleachers"
The Nomad turntable from VPI Industries offers music lovers an affordable, upgradeable, and high performance point of entry into the world of vinyl. The system is compatible with home theater A/V receivers, sound bars, and wireless digital tabletop components with analog inputs. It comes with everything you need to instantly experience the joys of vinyl.
"VPI's Nomad hits one into the bleachers," reports Scott Hull in an April 26, 2014 post at PartTimeAudiophile.com. "The turntable offers a lot for the $995 price."
Plinth and Platter from VPI Traveler
The Nomad is comprised of a 10" aluminum tonearm and 20-lb. plinth and platter assembly borrowed from VPI's award-winning Traveler turntable. Ortofon's 2M Red phono cartridge is already installed. For easy connection to your hi-fi or AV gear, the Nomad incorporates a built-in phono preamplifier.
But that's just the beginning. The Nomad also includes a built-in high-quality headphone amplifier and which will bring out the best in a huge range of headphones.
Nomad's custom phono preamplifier and headphone amplifier are designed to maximize both the sound quality and modular design of this upgradeable system. Connections consist of a headphone jack and a pair of RCA output jacks.
Designed for Today's New Vinyl Junkies
Designed to work with existing systems that might not otherwise have a turntable and phono pre-amplifier, the Nomad is ideal for music lovers whose primary system consists of a home theater A/V receiver, sound bar, or a tabletop wireless system with a pair of analog inputs.
"The Nomad is a radical departure for VPI," notes Mat Weisfeld, President of VPI Industries. "The explosive growth of personal audio and the growing demand among consumers for premium headphones, convinced us that there was a need for a portable high-quality entry-level analog playback system that could work easily in college dorms, apartments, offices, and even vacation homes."
Ortofon 2M Red Phono Cartridge
Ortofon's 2M Red MM phono cartridge was designed for precise and accurate retrieval of the information in the record groove. Despite its good looks, the 2M isn't just another pretty face. It has been engineered to the highest standards and reflects the unrelenting commitment of Ortofon to provide the most precise and accurate reproduction possible without coloration.
"Give the 2M Red anything off Martin Simpson's lush and pastoral Prodigal Son album and it responds with a precise, insightful sound," notes England's What Hi-fi? magazine. "It's a more-than-enjoyable listen."
The 2M features Ortofon's trademark split pole pins, an invention that enables moving magnet cartridges to have a flat frequency response, as with a moving coil cartridge. Split pole pins were invented by Ortofon, and were originally presented in the 500 series and Super OM series.
The 2M Red uses an improved engine, which provides an increased output of 5.5mV. It features a tipped elliptical diamond.
