Tubes Done the Way They Are Supposed to Sound

Let me just start by saying that I've been an audiophile since way back in the glory days when you wouldn't want that new transistor sound because it didn't measure anywhere near what tubes were doing. Solid state has come a long way since then and now we are way past that and into digital files. Is this progress? Sure it is, but many of us who first fell in love with audio listening to vacuum tube electronics would never think of anything else and are happy that a company like Woo Audio still appreciates the classic approach while keeping up to date in other ways. If you appreciate the classic sound from the golden age years but if you also just want the best sounding performance from a pair of headphones, period, you can't do better than this Woo WA22 headphone amp. It's like listening to an extremely high end pair of speakers, but even better, and clamped right to your ears. Young or old, you can't get better sound than this without spending mega mega bucks.

Very detailed

With the right tube combo a tube amp sounds mighty sweet! If you like very tight bass the WA22 goes low. But is open in the upper midrange. Treble is extended, transients are sharp. Very detailed everwhere. Absolutely have no more interest in solid state.

You get the full istening experience

As I mainly listen to vinyl I want the full experience of a tube amp. I use AudiQuest NightHawks and the Audeze LCD-3C headphones and this amp really loves both. I am a passionate listener and I demand a very good head amp with lot's of power and that is very quiet. And that's what this is. Highly recommended.

Just what I was looking and listening for

If I'm shelling out beaucoup bucks I'd better get it all, good sound, good looks, good listening experience all the way around. And I also want it to be built to last and not look and feel like a disposable throw-away toy. I wasn't easy on the WA-22 I gave it a close audition with Oppo PM-1, Sennheiser HD800, Audeze LCD-3, and other phones I had or my friends brought over. The sound is romantic and rich and a what I would classify as warm, meaning it's a classic tube sound. Just what I was looking and listening for. You won't be disappointed. I wasn't.

I was a solid state guy until

I listened to this headphone amp. With my Sennheiser HD800 headphones and some experimentation with different tubes, I'm having more fun and enjoying listening to my music collection all over again. The most notable difference other than the smooth sound of tubes is the amount of definition and discernible detail in difficult passages; I've never heard some of the detail in my music that I'm hearing now, and I never thought tubes were supposed to be 'fast'! This amp manages these headphones like nothing I've ever heard. I did a lot of research before I bought and I couldn't be more pleased with my decision.
