Upgrade of a Critically Acclaimed Favorite
The Athena Technologies F2 tower speaker earned a Stereophile "Recommended Components" listing plus other awards from the audiophile press. But that's not good enough for Athena Technologies. The new F2.2 upgraded version of this favorite floorstander boasts the same impressive specs as its predecessor plus even more exciting sound.
And get this. Athena offers the F2.2 at a lower retail price than its predecessor.
The powerful floorstanding F2.2 is the flagship of Athena Technologies’ Audition 2 series, and it delivers huge sound and the deepest bedrock bass. It's designed for one purpose, and one purpose only: to bring out best possible performance in the best home theater or hi-fi components. With its dual 8" woofers and a power handling capability of 250 watts per channel, the F2.2 will amaze you with its realism and punch.
"Immediately out of the box, the Audition AS-F2 presented an open, detailed, coherent, and neutral sound that reminded me of much more expensive floorstanding speakers," raves Robert J. Reina in the August 2002 Stereophile on the original model F2. "The better the recording, the more the Auditions 'disappeared.'"
An Unbeatable Driver Complement
Got a favorite movie that lacks dimension and power with other speaker systems? From action blockbuster special effects to romance and fantasy orchestral scores, the AS-F2.2 packs excitement that brings soundtracks to life as never before. The secret is an unbeatable complement of drivers in a system that includes two 8" woofers and a superbly responsive dome tweeter. All three drivers are magnetically shielded, making them safe to use near your TV.
The high-powered 1" Teteron dome tweeter provides clear extended high frequencies that are dispersed from the unique faceplate in a very wide window. The wider the window of sound, the easier and more flexible your speaker placement is, and the better the stereo imaging, too.
The tweeter is made of the durable synthetic material Teteron formed in a dome shape that is specially contoured to reduce distortion. Since Teteron is impervious to moisture, it is durable and won't change over time. And unlike metal type tweeters, which often suffer from inherent ringing problems, Teteron is non-resonant.
Massive Amounts of Bass
The AS-F2.2's dual injection molded polypropylene 8" woofers provide huge amounts of bass. Designed for high performance, high efficiency, and overall great sound, the polypropylene woofer cones stay rigid during the most extreme excursion. But they are light enough to enable fast movement, which means accurate and tight bass response. The rubber surrounds provide quiet woofer movement and enhance durability.
The baffle material is made of MDF, just like the speaker cabinets. The MDF is specially engineered to improve sound dispersion. The custom designed grilles leave a hint of the silver baffle beneath them, creating a contemporary look along with the gentle sloping edges and silver finish of the baffle. The front vented cabinet design makes placement easier as positioning the speaker against a wall has no detrimental affects to the system's performance.
Speaker terminals consist of high-quality gold-plated five-way binding posts that accept bare wire, pin type connectors, spades, or banana-type connectors.
"I was thrilled to have spend time with Athena Technologies' remarkable AS-F2, which did so little wrong and, in certain areas, far exceeded what I thought possible for its price - or even twice the price," concludes Robert Reina in Stereophile. "I congratulate the design team of Athena/API for being able to pull this off." |
