Going Solo
Solo Neo's on-board network music player delivers superb performance from music stored on local network devices, such as personal computers and NAS drives. It also allows access to Internet radio stations when its local network is connected to the Internet. Neo connects to your network via its wired 10/100 Ethernet port or thought its built-in wireless receiver.
In addition, Solo Neo's USB port can play music from local devices such as memory sticks or hard drives. It's compatible with WAV, MP3, AAC, WMA, and FLAC file formats. The duplex RS232 connector offers playback and control of iPods via the optional irDock.
Powerful 75-Watt-Per-Channel Amplifier
The Solo Neo doesn't sacrifice audio quality for convenience. The internal 75-watt-per-channel amplifier performs superbly with Arcam's matching Muso loudspeakers. But the Solo Neo is also capable of driving much more demanding speakers in larger rooms.
Twin toroidal transformers with an oversized supply for the power amp section give you all the muscle you need for resolving explosive music passages. The power supply has an independent torroid for microprocessor and standby functions, plus nine independently regulated power supplies in all. A passive fan-less cooling system delivers airflow without distracting noise.
Lots of Connectivity
The preamp section offers five line level-inputs plus a record output and a preamplifier output for external power amps. An optical digital output from the CD section allows digital recording. The front panel mini jack input offers quick hook-up of iPod-style MP3 players or games consoles. There's also a front-panel mini-jack for headphones.
The great-sounding built-in CD player uses a low jitter Colpitts crystal clock and a 24-bit Wolfson DAC. Other features include a second room output with independent volume control, a separate infrared jack input for control of a second room, full bass and treble controls, and adjustable speaker bass equalization for easy placement of Arcam Muso speakers (or any other speakers you that you choose to use).
Bass Equalization
Bass equalization may be used if Solo Neo is connected to smaller speakers that cannot reproduce very low frequency sounds. Increasing this setting causes very low frequency sounds to be progressively attenuated, while the volume of slightly higher-frequency sounds is increased. This allows the overall bass ‘amount’ produced by the speaker to sound the same as a larger full-range speaker. Experiment with bass equalization, together with the bass and treble controls, until you find the combination you prefer. |
