Superb Surround Sound and Stunning Stereo
The Cambridge Audio Azur 351R 5.1-channel AV amplifier delivers superb-quality surround sound, plus stunning audiophile stereo for brilliant music reproduction, at amazing value. Cambridge designers have obsessed over the audio, creating surround sound that truly immerses you in big-screen action and music reproduction so good it will make the hairs on the back of your neck stand up.
Cambridge Audio call their approach "Sound First" design. They prioritize audio quality, while cutting cost and clutter, to deliver one of the best-sounding AV receiver you'll hear at this price.
For example, most living room setups are 5.1 (five speakers plus a subwoofer bass speaker). So instead of giving you a 7.1 receiver with two channels you may never use, Cambridge's engineers have spent the development budget putting better quality components in the functions that you will use. They've also taken technologies from the pricier Azur 551R and included them in the 351R, including premium toroidal transformers for stunning bass response and an all-metal chassis to minimize distortion.
The 351R is a home entertainment hub with enough inputs and outputs to hook up all your gear. There's enough capacity to connect not just Blu-ray disc players and satellite set-top boxes, but also games consoles and media players like Apple TV, all in high definition via HDMI. There are plenty of inputs for hi-fi separates, too.
And the 351R packs plenty of power, putting out 50 watts per channel (at 8 ohms) for room-filling surround sound, and 80 watts per channel (at 6 ohms) for a superb audiophile stereo performance from even the most demanding speakers.
Quick Set-up
Whatever the shape and size of your room, the 351R’s CAMCAS (Cambridge Audio Microphone Controlled Auto Set-up) makes getting started easy. It uses a supplied microphone to measure sound levels from each speaker and then automatically tweaks their volume levels and delays so you get perfectly adjusted surround sound.
Dual Cirrus Logic 32-bit DSPs
High-quality and up-to-the-minute digital signal processors mean the 351R works with all the latest audio codecs and formats, including 3D video. And it will handle future formats for years to come.
Surround sound modes decoded by the 351R include Dolby TrueHD, Dolby Digital Plus, Dolby Pro Logic II, DTS-HD and DTS Neo:6 96/24. The 351R supports high-quality audio on all channels and allows a TV program/film mode in two channel to be enjoyed in full surround sound.
High-quality Components
Cambridge Audio's London-based engineers carefully select technologies and the finest components to work beautifully together, including toroidal transformers and X-Tract near-silent cooling, with a full metal chassis to optimize performance.
Toroidal transformer
While other people reserve toroidal transformers for their top-of-the-line separates, Cambridge puts them everywhere they can. The extra power reserves a toroidal transformer delivers mean not only a far better bass response, but also a deeper, richer sound across the board and minimum distortion.
X-Tract Cooling
X-Tract Cooling is Cambridge Audio's near-silent cooling combination of funneling heat through a heatsink and thermostatically controlled fan. This helps your 351R stay cool without delivering distracting noise. Only at moments of peak power use will the fan be at full speed (and those moments, of course, will be when you won't be able to hear it).
The 351R is just 3.9" high. Chosen not just for its good looks (though the solid, brushed aluminum fronts make a great addition to any home), the all-metal case is very stable and introduces less resonance to any signal. |
