The Perfect Power Amplifier for a High Quality Digital Preamp
The Azur 651W is a two channel power amplifier that's designed specifically to be partnered with a high quality digital preamplifier such as the Cambridge Audio Stream Magic 6. By separating out power amplifier functionality in a stand-alone component, Cambridge engineers were able to give this amplifier the time and dedication that it needs to deliver the ultimate performance.
Immense Power for Music or Movies
The 651W offers impressive power for music or movies. It boasts 100 watts-per-channel in stereo mode into 8 ohms. This figure increases to 150 watts-per-channel into 4 ohms. An audiophile-grade oversize toroidal transformer and substantial extruded heatsink deliver perfect power with extremely low distortion.
Cambridge Audio was one of the first manufacturers to use toroidal transformers in the 1970s, and it continues to use them today. One of the most important the benefits of a toroidal transformer over the cheaper, inferior EI-type transformer used by most other manufacturers is high-quality power output to the amplification circuits with no clipping of the waveform signal, to provide a consistent signal along with no transformer noise, buzz or hum.
The 651W's toroidal transformer delivers sensational bass performance, high power output – which allows large and demanding speakers to be driven at high volumes – and large power reserves, allowing the transformer to deliver high peaks of volume when required. The transformer is fully shielded against internal and external electrical interference to maintain quality of power and signal.
Dual Mono Design
The 651W uses a clever dual mono amplifier design, taking separate feeds from the large toroidal transformer and processing the left and right channels separately. This means that the 651W is effectively two monoblock amplifiers put together in one chassis. The benefit of this design is superior stereo imaging and soundstaging.
Two pairs of high current output transistors per channel allow the 651W to drive almost any speaker with ease, with excellent bass response and dynamic control.
Balanced and Unbalanced Inputs
By featuring both fully balanced XLR and unbalanced RCA analog audio inputs, the 651W provides a versatile and high-end-friendly range of connections. A digital preamplifier like Cambridge Audio's Stream Magic 6 is the perfect partner for the 651W if your main focus is listening to digital sources. It also beautifully complements a more traditional analog preamplifier.
Two pairs of speaker outputs allow you to bi-wire a suitable pair of speakers. You can also drive two pairs of speakers simultaneously.
CAP 5 Protection Systems Offer Worry-free Performance
Cambridge Audio's CAP 5 protection protects the 651W along with any connected equipment and speakers, ensuring ultimate reliability and peace of mind.
Over-current protection safeguards your speakers from being driven too hard. Temperature protection guards your amp in case of inadequate ventilation. DC Detect protects against the most common user errors in set-up, while short circuit protection detect incorrectly connected speakers. Clipping circuitry prevents damage if the 651W is driven too hard.
Custom Install and System
The 651W features a very convenient Audio Detect mode. When an audio input signal is detected, the 651W will automatically power up. When the audio signal stops, it will then automatically power down after 30 minutes.
This cool feature, along with trigger connections, IR, and control bus connectivity make the 651W ideal for custom install integration and power synchronization with preamplifiers.
Full Metal JacketElectronics and, therefore, sound quality, are particularly susceptible to vibration. That’s why Cambridge uses a low resonance, acoustically- dampened metal chassis to eliminate as much vibration as possible. This ensures that the best sound quality is extracted from each source.
