Great-Sounding, Money-Saving Multi-Channel Package

MartinLogan's new ElectroMotion loudspeakers are setting new standards in affordable high-end sound. Our ElectroMotion home theater package gives you everything you need in the speaker and sub department to start enjoying multi-channel entertainment, including speaker wire!

Our ElectroMotion package consists of one pair of ElectroMotion EM-ESL hybrid electrostatic tower speakers for the left and right channels, one ElectroMotion EM-C2 center channel speaker, one pair of ElectroMotion EM-FX2 surround speakers, one MartinLogan Dynamo 1000 powered subwoofer, and 100 feet of Kimber Kable KWIK-12 speaker cable FREE (a $235 value).

MartinLogan ElectroMotion EM-ESL Hybrid Electrostatic Tower Speaker

MartinLogan's ElectroMotion EM-ESL represents a brave new direction for electrostatic loudspeaker design. Featuring a full-sized 34" tall curvilinear XStat electrostatic transducer, the ESL performs more like a mini-flagship than an entry-level audiophile speaker.

This bold loudspeaker establishes a new benchmark for price verses performance. Pushing thin film transducer technology to its limit, the ElectroMotion ESL features the most affordable full-size XStat electrostatic transducer ever designed.

MicroPerf and AirFrame Technology

ElectroMotion ESL's XStat electrostatic MicroPerf panel is housed within a radical aluminum and composite AirFrame similar to those found on MartinLogan's flagship products. AirFrame technology rigidifies the electrostatic panel without obstructing playable surface area or interfering with ambience enriching dipole sound radiation. At the same time, an AirFrame provides electrical and acoustical isolation, minimizing intermodulated distortion caused by vibration and resonance while enhancing imaging, low-level sonic detail, accuracy, and efficiency.

MicroPerf design optimizes the individual holes of The EM-ESL's electrostatic panel. MicroPerf design substantially increases diaphragm radiating area, compared to early generations, without compromising structural integrity. The resulting increase in output capability and efficiency allows The EM-ESL's panel to enjoy a substantial leap in bandwidth and dynamics without growing larger. For example, The EM-ESL's XStat electrostatic panel features 129 square inches of sound radiating surface on both the front and back and a sensitivity of 91dB into 6 Ohms.

CLS XStat Transducer

One of MartinLogan's original breakthroughs, CLS (Curvilinear Line Source) technology, has been an essential ingredient of every electrostatic loudspeaker the company has ever produced, and the ElectroMotion ESL is no exception. Proprietary manufacturing methods enable construction of electrostatic panels as cylindrical sections. Their gentle horizontal curvature solves the problem of obtaining good high-frequency dispersion from a large radiating surface without compromising overall sound quality or reliability.

A unique XStat transducer was developed for the ElectroMotion ESL to reduce the gauge thickness of the electrostatic panel's steel stators. The reduced gauge does not alter the performance characteristics of the panel. However, as a natural byproduct of tighter build tolerances, it does increase the visual transparency of the panel. The EM-ESL's new XStat panel is so visually transparent it nearly vanishes when you're sitting and listening.

Controlled Dispersion Sound Radiation

Another key attribute of the ElectroMotion ESL is its naturally dipolar radiation pattern. A true dipole, The EM-ESL radiates sound with equal intensity from the front and back of its diaphragm, but the outputs are in opposite phase. As a result, sound waves rippling out toward the sides meet at the speaker's edge and cancel.

That and the relatively large size of the ElectroMotion ESL's electrostatic panel cause output at the sides to be very low relative to that of a conventional loudspeaker, which in turn minimizes side-wall reflections that tend to muddle sonic detail and stereo imaging. While the reduction in output to the sides contributes to the astonishing clarity for which electrostats are revered, the energy reflected off the wall behind the speaker opens up and deepens the sound.

Superb Bass Integration

To seamlessly blend audio output from the high- and mid-frequency electrostatic panel to the low-frequency woofer, the ElectroMotion ESL features a proprietary Vojtko topology filter utilizing custom air core coil and low DCR steel laminate inductors, polyester film capacitors in series, and low DF electrolytic capacitors in parallel.

A precise 8" high-excursion, perfectly balanced, audiophile grade, doped fiber cone woofer was custom designed exclusively for The EM-ESL by MartinLogan's in-house engineering team. This woofer precisely optimizes cone suspension and magnetic flux field to produce high levels of bass output and simultaneous precise midrange. The custom woofer's rigid light-weight diaphragm eliminates cone flexure and maximizes response time to achieve remarkably low-distortion approaching that of MartinLogan's award-winning electrostatic panel design.

Easy Connections, Solid Adjustable Footing

Convenient push-style speaker terminals and curved inserts help guide speaker wire effortlessly into place. The rubber end caps on the terminal are also removable for the use of banana plugs instead of bare wire. The EM-ESL is supplied with sturdy, 1/4-20 ETC™ spikes, which can be used to fine tune vertical wave launch, enhance stability on thick carpets, and create tighter coupling between speaker and floor to provide a tighter and detailed bass performance. Each spike is conveniently covered by removable rubber end caps if you prefer not to use spikes.

The Second Coming of the Aerius?

Longtime MartinLogan enthusiasts are sure to describe ElectroMotion ESL as the second-coming of the legendary Aerius electrostatic speaker which debuted in 1992 and went on to sell in record numbers. The new ESL boasts 40 percent more radiating surface, a superbly integrated and authoritative bass performance, and a sensitivity rated at 91 dB. In addition, the ESL is capable of being effortlessly powered by both receivers and high-end amplifiers alike.

MartinLogan ElectroMotion EM-C2 Center Channel Speaker

MartinLogan's powerful EM-C2 center channel provides a detailed, articulate, and authoritative center channel audio presence. Sized similar to a traditional AV receiver the EM-C2 is designed to fit discretely within any standard audio-video cabinet.

The EM-C2's perfectly balanced dual 5.25" high-excursion, doped fiber-cone woofers are seamlessly blended with the Folded Motion XT tweeter with a high-precision, advanced topology audiophile-grade crossover network. The EM-C2 has one 1.25" × 2.4" Folded Motion Transducer with a 4.5" × 2.75" diaphragm.

Folded Motion XT Tweeter

MartinLogan's new larger, low distortion Folded Motion XT tweeter boasts a radiating surface 40% larger than those found in the company's award-winning Motion Series products. The XT uses thin film transducer technology which draws from the company's acclaimed electrostatic driver designs.

MartinLogan's exclusive and highly innovative Folded Motion Tweeter helps gives the EM-C2 its fantastically realistic highs. Lightning fast transient response, combined with a large surface area (eight-times that of a typical 1" dome tweeter) creates clear, highly dynamic, and precise sound.

The Folded Motion Tweeter works by moving air (which creates sound) perpendicular to the folded ridges of the diaphragm, similar to how an accordion works. This extremely low mass diaphragm 'squeezes' air and requires almost 90 percent less excursion than the typical 1" dome tweeter, which drastically minimizes distortion while providing a lighting fast response time. The increased surface area also provides a wide, yet controlled sound dispersion to create a realistic and carefully etched sound stage.

Simplified Hook-ups

The EM-C2 also features convenient push-style speaker terminals, adapted from MartinLogan's award-winning Motion Series, with curved inserts that help guide speaker wire effortlessly into place. The rubber end caps on the terminal are also removable for the use of banana plugs instead of bare wire. So simple, you'll actually enjoy hooking up these speakers.

The EM-C2 has a frequency response of 55–25,000 Hz ±3 dB, sensitivity of 94 dB @ 2.83 volts / meter, nominal impedance of 4 ohms (compatible with 4, 6 or 8 ohm rated amplifiers), 80-degrees x 30-degrees dispersion, and a recommended amplifier power of 20 - 250 watts per channel. It measures 6.4" high, 18.9" wide, and 14.3" deep, and weighs 24.5 lbs.

MartinLogan ElectrMotion EM-FX2 Surround Speaker

MartinLogan's EM-FX2 surround speaker features dual Folded Motion XT tweeters in a wide-dispersion array ideally suited for surround channel applications. A single 6.5" doped fiber-cone woofer provides powerful low-frequency extension. Available in either black or white, the EM-FX2 is designed to corner mount, wall mount, or angle-wall mount for versatile surround sound placement in any room.

Folded Motion XT Tweeter

The EM-FX2 has dual 1.25" × 2.4" Folded Motion Transducers with a 4.5" × 2.75" diaphragm. MartinLogan's new larger, low distortion Folded Motion XT tweeter boasts a radiating surface 40% larger than those found in the company's award-winning Motion Series products. The XT uses thin film transducer technology which draws from the company's acclaimed electrostatic driver designs.

Simplified Hook-ups

The EM-FX2 also features convenient push-style speaker terminals, adapted from MartinLogan's award-winning Motion Series, with curved inserts that help guide speaker wire effortlessly into place. The rubber end caps on the terminal are also removable for the use of banana plugs instead of bare wire. So simple, you'll actually enjoy hooking up these speakers.

The EM-FX2 has a frequency response of 55–25,000 Hz ±3 dB, sensitivity of 93 dB @ 2.83 volts / meter, nominal impedance of 5 ohms (compatible with 4, 6 or 8 ohm rated amplifiers), 160-degrees x 30-degrees dispersion, and a recommended amplifier power of 20 - 200 watts per channel. It measures 14.9" high, 184" wide, and 6.8" deep, and weighs 16 lbs.

MartinLogan Dynamo 1000 Powered Subwoofer

True high-end performance. Home-friendly aesthetics. And power, lots of power! In a nutshell, that's the incredible MartinLogan Dynamo 1000 subwoofer, a true dynamo of a powered sub.

"The Dynamo worked well over most of the bottom two and a half octaves," reports Daniel Kumin in Sound & Vision magazine for October 2010. "It mated up to the Motion 12 quite smoothly, and proved itself to be quite a competent sub, with extension approaching that of my everyday sub (also a sealed 12-inch unit, though about twice as costly."

Building on the success of the original Dynamo powered subwoofer, MartinLogan's designers went all out with the extremely powerful Dynamo 1000. Dramatic bass detail and bass attack, superb extension, and room-shaking output ensure a music and home theater experience like no other subwoofer in its class can deliver. Its features include a 500-watt RMS, 1,000-watt peak amplifier, and 12" cone driver, giving you all the bass excitement you could ever want

Its standard down-firing configuration quickly converts into a front-firing setup for folks who prefer a "hidden" installation.

The finishing touch is Dynamo's built in wireless receiver wireless receiver, which works with the included SWT-1 wireless transmitter for cable-free hook-up. This great features is just the ticket for bass aficionados who want an uncluttered, minimalist look in the room.

"Very Convincing Movie-Sound Playback"

The October 2010 issue of Sound & Vision magazine awarded the Motion series speaker system its "Certified & Recommended" honors. Reviewing a MartinLogan Motion system consisting of the Motion 12, Motion 8, Motion 4, and a Dynamo 1000 powered sub, Daniel Kumin says, "ML's suite produced very convincing movie-sound playback… The Motions excelled in differentiating American Gangster's many different street-scene and interior ambiences, and vividly cranked out its kick-heavy '70s-soul soundtrack."

Affordable Low-Bass Muscle

MartinLogan never lets up! Thanks to the high-end loudspeaker manufacturer's ceaseless research into driver, amplifier, cabinet, and control technologies, it has developed a highly affordable solution for enthusiasts of deep bass. The new family of Dynamo powered subwoofers delivers the low frequency muscle that today's movies and music requires, with an emphasis on highly accurate reproduction.

Front-Firing or Down-Firing Flexibility

Dynamo is user-configurable for either front- or down-firing operation. Just pick up the sub, flip it over 90 degrees on the included stand, and you've changed front front-firing to down-firing, or vice versa. Whether in a corner, behind furniture, or installed in a cabinet, your Dynamo will sound superb.

Inverse Mathematical Equalization

An IME (inverse mathematical equalization) filter is derived from the inverse of the unfiltered driver response. Precision IME filtering yields extremely accurate low-frequency response – far superior to that provided by the simple second-order, high-Q filters typical of competitively priced subwoofers.

Seamless System Integration

Dynamo's connections and controls are designed to enable easy, seamless integration with any stereo music or multi-channel home theater system. It's main left/right line-level inputs feed into a precision low-pass filter. For systems in which a surround processor supplies the crossover, Dynamo provides an LFE input that completely bypasses its internal filters.

This capability together with flexible crossover controls ensures that Dynamo can deliver excellent bass from any location in your room. No other subwoofer in its class offers Dynamo's combination of bass extension, power, and detail.

Go Wireless with Your MartinLogan Sub

Although correct room placement plays a key role in optimizing subwoofer performance, it can impose the inconvenience (not to mention unsightliness!) of running long lengths of cable through walls, along baseboards or under floors and carpets.

The MartinLogan SWT-1 Subwoofer Wireless Transmitter solves the problem. It allows you to place your Dynamo 1000 subwoofer in the exact location where it will deliver the best bass. Cable clutter becomes a thing of the past and actual system setup time can be dramatically reduced. Need to system troubleshoot at a later time? When you go wireless, there will never be an untidy mess of wires to sift through in order to find the right cable.

Solving the Placement Puzzle

While it's true that bass waves are non-directional and, in theory, you should be able to place your subwoofer anywhere in the room without affecting bass performance or the performance of your other speakers, it's never quite that simple. Bass is dramatically affected by the room itself. Dimensions, dead spots, archways, even furniture placement can cause bass to sound bloated or boomy with a lack of definition.

Achieving optimal bass almost always requires experimenting, with the sub in various parts of the room. Ah and there's the rub! While experimenting, you may discover the best place for the subwoofer is all the way across the room, far from the amplifier or receiver. Or maybe a "hidden" install is required. Both situations impose the inconvenience (not to mention unsightliness!) of running a long length of cable through walls, along baseboards or under floors and carpets. That's where the MartinLogan SWT-1 Subwoofer Wireless Transmitter comes in.

The MartinLogan Dynamo 1000 subwoofer is designed for wired or wireless operation. A wireless receiver built into each of these subs can be used to establish connection with the SWT-1. The SWT-1 allows you to experiment with subwoofer placement to your heart's content. Unsightly wiring becomes a thing of the past and the actual reduction in system set-up time can be dramatic.

The SWT-1 couldn't be easier to use. Just plug it into the wall, and connect your audio to the left and right / LFE RCA inputs. Press the sync button on the bottom of the transmitter, and you're done. You're ready for stunning bass performance, wirelessly.

Skeptical About Wireless Audio? Relax!

Skeptical about wireless audio? You can relax! Following extensive research and testing, MartinLogan engineers designed the SWT-1 with an uncompressed 16-bit, 48 kHz sampling rate (exceeding the current CD standard of 16-bit, 44.1 kHz), which proved more than adequate (and accurate) for use in the wireless transmission of low-frequency information below 200 Hz. And since the RF transmission is digital, it is error-checked to ensure no deviation from the original signal.

The MartinLogan SWT-1 operates in the 2.4 GHz frequency range. Often, users of wireless technology complain about interference from other noise sources in the room (such as wireless local area networks, portable phones on the same frequency, even microwave ovens). MartinLogan engineers included an integrated RF power amplifier that provides a 15 dBm RF power level to reduce interference. Stray RF interference is also reduced through our use of Adaptive FHSS operation. Think Bluetooth technology; it's similar.

In a typical room situation, the SWT-1's RF transmitter has a maximum unobstructed operating range of 40 feet (12.5 meters) depending on placement of course, and if desired, its compact dimensions allow it to fit neatly into an A/V rack.

MiniETC™ (Energy Transfer Coupler) Spikes

The Dynamo is supplied with sturdy, 1/4-20 MiniETC™ spikes, which can be used in place of the standard feet to enhance stability on thick carpets or to create tighter coupling between speaker and floor.

Portless Enclosure

Although ports are a convenient and cost-effective way of increasing low-frequency output, they rely on resonant energy in a way that impairs bass quality. A good sealed system will exhibit less transient-blurring group delay while maintaining smooth, consistent response regardless of output level or voice-coil temperature. Listen carefully to the sound of a bass drum, and you'll hear the difference.

Kimber Kable KWIK-12 In-Wall 12-Gauge Speaker Cable

Dual-gauge configuration KWIK-12 from Kimber Kable boasts a large-gauge and small-gauge conductor for each channel, or four spiraled conductors in all. This unique 12-awg strand design, along with Kimber's special-recipe dielectric, adds up to one of the best sounding bulk cables for home theater and distributed sound you're ever likely to hear. The slippery PVC outer jacket pulls easily through walls.
