Potent Tower with Dual 6.5-Inch Bass Woofers
MartinLogan's Motion 40 tower speaker features the company's advanced resolution Folded Motion™ tweeter, a 5.5" aluminum mid bass woofer, and two 6.5" aluminum bass cones. An expansive soundstage, richly detailed highs, an open and revealing midrange and an extended low end are hallmarks of the Motion 40's design.
Whether you're building a spectacular two-channel music system or an exhilarating multi-channel home theater system, the Motion 40 is a versatile performer that excels at both applications. Two Motion 40s deliver spectacular stereo performance. In a home theater, the Motion 40 is voice matched to MartinLogan's Motion 30 center channel speaker and Motion FX surround speakers. To plumb the lower depths of the music and movie experience, bass aficionados can add a high-performance MartinLogan subwoofer.
"Performance Above Their Price Point"
"MartinLogan has done an excellent job of coaxing a near-electrostatic sonic character from a set of forward-firing drivers mounted in a traditional rectangular box cabinet," reports Darryl Wilkinson in his Sound&Vision review for September 17, 2012, which honored the Motion 40 with its Top Pick of the Year Award.
"The Motion 40s really do perform above their price point. If you enjoy clean, highly articulate highs and mids, these are going to make you smile," notes Sean Killebrew in a HomeTheaterReview.com review for December 31, 2012.
Excellence Without the High-End Price
Part of the secret to the Motion 40’s outstanding performance lies in the dual oversized aluminum-cone woofers paired with a rear-firing bass port. The oversized woofer design creates increased cone area delivering higher output and audibly richer, deeper bass performance than it’s slightly smaller sibling, the Motion 20. The addition of a dedicated mid woofer also promotes an even more open, revealing and authentic midrange. Pairing this powerful trio with MartinLogan's patented Folded Motion tweeter (similar to tweeter technologies found in ultra-expensive speakers) creates superb response across the entire frequency spectrum.
The MartinLogan Motion Series
Inspired by MartinLogan's ultra-high-end electrostatic loudspeakers, the Motion Series was created to provide stunning sound for your ultimate-performance home theater or stereo. MartinLogan's dedicated in-house engineers carefully crafted the Motion Series to create an extremely affordable and compact product line that seamlessly blends the company's exquisite Folded Motion™ transducers with powerful, compact bass technology. The result is a smooth, refined sound with stunning dynamic range and jaw-dropping clarity.
What makes the Motion Series sound so amazing? MartinLogan's dedicated in-house engineering team started by utilizing and refining the most advanced, compact technologies and combining them with innovative engineering. The result is an emotionally engaging sound that rivals (and most times trounces) traditional loudspeakers of similar size and price.
Folded Motion™ Tweeter
MartinLogan's exclusive and highly innovative Folded Motion™ Tweeter helps gives Motion speakers their fantastically realistic highs. Lightning fast transient response, combined with a large surface area (eight-times that of a typical 1" dome tweeter) creates clear, highly dynamic, and precise sound.
The Folded Motion™ Tweeter works by moving air (which creates sound) perpendicular to the folded ridges of the diaphragm, similar to how an accordion works. This extremely low mass diaphragm "squeezes" air and requires almost 90 percent less excursion than the typical 1" dome tweeter, which drastically minimizes distortion while providing a lighting fast response time. The increased surface area also provides a wide, yet controlled sound dispersion to create a realistic and carefully etched sound stage.
Contributing to the superb performance is the legendary Vojtko™ crossover. It is carefully hand-built using only the finest polyester film and low DF electrolytic capacitors, custom air-core coils, and low DCR steel laminate inductor for vanishingly low distortion and seamless driver integration. This precision-tuned network preserves even the most microscopic sonic nuances while handling the full dynamics of any source.
MiniETC™ (Energy Transfer Coupler) Spikes
Included with your MartinLogan are sturdy, 1/4-20 MiniETC™ spikes, which can be used in place of the standard feet to enhance stability on thick carpets or to create tighter coupling between speaker and floor.
Complementing Motion's sonic accuracy is elegant yet understated styling. The flawless high-gloss, piano black finish and MartinLogan's signature perforated grille, gives Motion Series speakers an elegant and timeless look.
