"Scary Good" Center Channel Speaker
NHT's Classic Three C center channel speaker is optimized for seamless performance with the other models in the Classic product series. Two 6.5" aluminum cone woofers really add impact to the bass reproduction and create a huge listening area in tandem with NHT's new midrange/tweeter assembly.
Designed to play well in even the largest rooms, the Three C is the ideal center speaker for high-performance multi-channel music and movies. While small, two-way three-driver center speakers may be popular, this design is really more about creating a low-profile speaker than one that's suited for center channel use.
That's because traditional center channel speaker's frequency response changes hugely as the listener moves away from the cabinet's center. NHT's three-way design eliminates this huge dip, ensuring that every seat in your home theater is the best seat in the house.
"System of the Year"
"Few systems this price can match the Classics' openness, detail, and three-dimensionality -- qualities guaranteed to enhance your enjoyment of music and films," reports Chris Martens in his December 2006 The Perfect Vision review of NHT's Classic Three, Four, and Three C center speakers. "The Classics' imaging is just scary good."
The Perfect Vision magazine liked the NHT so well, that it gave its "Home Theater System of the Year Award" to the Classic Four, Classic Three, and Classic Three C speakers.
"They Excel in Every Category "
"The most impressive aspect of NHT's new Classic designs is that they're such well-rounded products," writes Steve Guttenberg in his April 2007 Home Theater magazine review of NHT's Classic Four, Classic Three, and Classic Three C center speakers. "They excel in every category: build quality, value, features, and performance."
An 'Air Spring' Controls Cone Motion
NHT speakers are acoustic suspension designs that use nature's perfect spring force -- air -- to control the cone motion, instead of a heavy and unpredictable mechanical suspension. It takes a little more development time and amplifier power to do an acoustic suspension design justice, but the greatly decreased distortion, deeper bass response, and increased detail are well worth it.
Creating a Large Listening Area
By using two low distortion drivers mounted close together on a single plate, NHT is able to produce a speaker with a large listening area, lower distortion, and higher power handling than typical two-way designs.
All of the woofers in the Classic line feature frames made from BMC (Bulk Molding Compound). Usually a designer has to choose between inexpensive, mechanically sound materials such as ABS plastic and stamped steel, or expensive materials such as cast aluminum or magnesium that are ideal acoustically and mechanically. BMC delivers the best of both worlds. It is a cost effective material that is immensely stiff and easily shaped into acoustically ideal shapes.
Sound-Enhancing, Graceful Cabinets
While the Classic series cabinets are certainly beautiful, their shape is all about the business of making great sound. The graceful cabinets place every driver into a consistent predictable acoustical environment. For example, variable radius edges on the cabinet sides randomize diffraction from the midrange and tweeter drivers, aiding the speakers' dispersion of midrange and high-frequency sounds.
Beautiful Environmentally Friendly Cabinet
The cabinet is made with MDF, a board manufactured primarily of wood residues from the production of lumber and plywood with a low percentage of virgin tree wood. NHT finishes them with seven coats of hand-finished polyurethane applied in a "solid particle" method that's safe for the environment. This finish is then sealed with two coats of automotive grade clear-coat to protect the finish. By avoiding exotic wood veneers, and using materials such as MDF, NHT doesn't sacrifice scarce natural resources to make acoustically sound furniture grade cabinets.
The Classic Three C has a frequency response of 73 Hz - 20 kHz with 87 dB sensitivity. It is 7" high, 21.8" wide, and 8.25" deep. |
