What You Need to Know
What Are Powered Speakers — and Why Does It Matter?
Most speakers are "passive." That means they need a separate amplifier (or receiver) to make sound. You buy the speakers. You buy the amp. You wire them together. It works great — but it takes up space and costs more money.
Powered speakers are different. The amplifier lives inside the speaker. You plug them in, connect your TV or phone or turntable, and you're done. No extra boxes. No extra cables. Just music.
The Klipsch Sevens II take that idea and push it as far as it can go. Inside these two speakers, Klipsch packed the kind of electronics you'd normally find in a full AV receiver. That means Dolby Atmos surround sound, room correction software, built-in streaming, HDMI for your TV, a phono input for your turntable, and Wi-Fi. All of it. In two bookshelf speakers.
Big Sound from Klipsch's Legendary Horn Technology
Klipsch has been building speakers since 1946. Their secret weapon has always been the horn. A horn tweeter is very different from a normal tweeter. It shapes and focuses sound the way a megaphone does — with very little power, you get a lot of volume. The result is a speaker that sounds alive and dynamic, even at lower volume levels.
The Sevens II uses a 1-inch titanium tweeter mounted inside a Tractrix® horn. Tractrix is Klipsch's name for a specific horn shape they patented. It's designed to move sound into your room cleanly and evenly, so the music sounds good whether you're sitting directly in front of the speakers or off to the side.
Below the tweeter sits a 6.5-inch Jet Cerametallic™ woofer. Cerametallic is a material Klipsch developed that's stiff (for accurate bass) but light (for fast, punchy response). The woofer moves more air than a 5-inch driver, which means more bass and a bigger sense of scale in the room.
The cabinet itself got an upgrade too. The front baffle — the face of the speaker where the drivers sit — is now a single molded piece made from BMC (Bulk Molding Compound). A one-piece baffle is stiffer than one built from multiple parts. Stiffer means less vibration. Less vibration means the drivers can do their job without the cabinet getting in the way. The baffle also has a curved shape at the edges, which helps sound spread evenly across a wider area.
The Electronics Are the Big Story
Klipsch partnered with Onkyo — a Japanese electronics company with decades of experience building AV receivers — to design the guts of the Sevens II. The result is a full AVR (Audio/Video Receiver) architecture built right into the speaker.
Here's what that gets you:
- Dolby Atmos via Virtual Height Channels — Dolby Atmos is the same immersive audio format used in movie theaters. It places sounds above and around you. Normally you need five, seven, or more speakers to do this. The Sevens II uses processing to simulate that effect from just two speakers. It's not quite the same as a full surround system, but for a two-speaker setup it's genuinely impressive for movies and TV.
- Dirac Live® Room Correction — Every room sounds a little different. Hard floors, soft couches, big windows — they all change how sound bounces around and reaches your ears. Dirac Live measures your room using the included calibration microphone and automatically adjusts the speaker's output to compensate. The result is tighter bass, clearer midrange, and better imaging — all tailored to your specific space.
- HDMI 2.1 with eARC — One HDMI cable connects the Sevens II directly to your TV. eARC (Enhanced Audio Return Channel) sends the full audio signal from your TV back to the speakers, including Dolby Atmos. HDMI 2.1 also passes through 8K video, HDR10+, Dolby Vision, and gaming features like VRR (Variable Refresh Rate) and ALLM (Auto Low Latency Mode) to whatever is connected to your TV. Your TV remote controls the volume.
- Built-In Streaming — No separate streaming device needed. The Sevens II connects to your Wi-Fi and supports Apple AirPlay 2, Google Cast, Spotify Connect, Tidal Connect, and Qobuz Connect. Play directly from your phone, tablet, or computer to the speakers over your home network.
What Reviewers Are Saying
The team at Audio Advice reviewed the Sevens II alongside the Fives II and Nines II after spending time with all three models in their listening rooms. They called the launch of the II series "the most significant update to this lineup since it began" and described the changes as "not incremental." Their verdict on the Sevens II specifically: it's the sweet spot of the lineup, bringing Dirac Live room correction and the optional wireless inter-speaker link that the Fives II lacks, without the room demands of the Nines II. They noted that the original Fives, Sevens, and Nines were "hard to beat at the price" and that the II series addresses the one gap the originals had — Wi-Fi streaming. (Audio Advice, April 2026)
ListenUp reviewed all three II-series models and called The Sevens II "the sweet spot for most people." Their reviewer spent time with all three and concluded that the Sevens II delivers "the best all-around balance of size, bass, features, and long-term satisfaction" for a living room or main listening space. They praised the lineup for getting the core idea right: a powered speaker system that handles TV audio, streaming, vinyl, and everyday listening without a separate receiver. (ListenUp, April 2026)
HomeTheaterReview covered the Sevens II at launch and highlighted the significance of the Onkyo-powered electronics package, noting that the speakers include "internal electronics inspired by AV receivers — so there's no need to add a separate amp, DAC, or streamer." They called the lineup well-suited to "streaming-first, space-conscious listeners" and praised the combination of Dirac Live room calibration and optional wireless inter-speaker pairing. (HomeTheaterReview, January 2026)
Who Is This a Good Fit For?
You want a complete music and TV system without a receiver, multiple boxes, or a wall of cables.
You have a TV and want your speakers to handle everything — Dolby Atmos movies, streaming music, and vinyl — from one system.
You own a turntable and want to plug it in directly — no separate phono preamp needed.
You're setting up a living room, bedroom, or home office and want great sound without a lot of gear.

Features & Specifications
Legendary Horn Sound — Upgraded
The 1-inch titanium LTS vented tweeter sits inside a Tractrix® horn. Tractrix geometry guides high frequencies into the room smoothly and evenly. You get crisp, clear highs whether you're sitting directly in front of the speakers or off to the side.
6.5-Inch Cerametallic Woofer
The Jet Cerametallic™ woofer is stiff enough for accurate bass but light enough for fast, punchy response. The 6.5-inch size moves more air than a 5-inch driver — which means more bass, more body, and a bigger sense of scale. Frequency response reaches down to 39Hz.
Stiffer, Better Baffle
The one-piece BMC (Bulk Molding Compound) baffle reduces unwanted cabinet vibration. Its curved edges help sound spread more evenly across the room. The result is less coloration from the cabinet itself, and better off-axis sound quality.
Dolby Atmos® Surround from Two Speakers
Dolby Atmos is the immersive audio format used in movies and streaming shows. The Sevens II decodes Dolby Atmos and uses Virtual Height Channel processing to simulate overhead and surrounding sound from just two speakers. No height channels or surround speakers required.
Dirac Live® Room Correction (Limited License)
Dirac Live measures how your room affects the sound using the included calibration microphone. It then automatically corrects those anomalies — tightening bass, improving clarity, and aligning the soundstage — for a presentation tuned to your exact room. No manual EQ required.
HDMI 2.1 In/Out with eARC
One cable connects the Sevens II to your TV. HDMI 2.1 supports 8K video pass-through, HDR10+, Dolby Vision, BT.2020 color, Variable Refresh Rate (VRR), Auto Low Latency Mode (ALLM), and Quick Frame Transport (QFT) for gaming. eARC sends full Dolby Atmos audio from your TV back to the speakers. CEC lets your TV remote control speaker volume.
Built-In Wi-Fi Streaming
No streaming dongle needed. The Sevens II connects to your home network over 2.4GHz or 5GHz Wi-Fi and supports Apple AirPlay 2, Google Cast, Spotify Connect, Tidal Connect, and Qobuz Connect. Ethernet input available for wired network connection.
Optional Wireless Speaker Link
The Sevens II can connect the left and right speakers wirelessly. Use the included cable for full 96kHz/24-bit high-resolution audio, or go wireless for 48kHz studio-quality sound with no cable between speakers.
Built-In Phono Preamp
Plug your turntable directly into the RCA phono input. No separate phono preamp needed. Compatible with moving magnet (MM) cartridges.
96kHz / 24-Bit Hi-Res Audio
The Sevens II decodes high-resolution audio up to 96kHz/24-bit — well above CD quality. Stream from Tidal, Qobuz, or other hi-res services and hear the full quality of the recording.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need a receiver or amplifier to use the Sevens II?
No. The Sevens II are powered speakers — all the amplification is built in. Just plug them in, connect your sources (TV, turntable, phone, computer), and you're ready to go. No receiver, no separate amp, no extra boxes required.
How do I connect my TV?
Use the included HDMI cable. Connect it from the HDMI eARC port on the Sevens II to the eARC port on your TV. This gives you full Dolby Atmos audio from your TV, and CEC lets your TV remote control the speaker volume. If your TV only has ARC (not eARC), it will still work, but some advanced audio formats may not pass through.
What is Dirac Live and how does it work?
Dirac Live is a room correction system. Every room sounds a little different depending on its size, shape, and what's in it. Dirac Live measures how sound behaves in your specific room using the included calibration microphone, then automatically adjusts the speaker output to compensate. The setup takes about 10 minutes and is guided by the Klipsch Connect Plus app. The result is tighter bass and more accurate imaging — no manual EQ adjustments needed.
Can I use the Sevens II with a turntable?
Yes. There's a built-in phono preamp on the primary speaker. Just connect your turntable's RCA cables to the phono input and flip the phono/line switch to phono. This works with moving magnet (MM) cartridges. If you have a moving coil (MC) cartridge, you'll need a separate step-up transformer or phono preamp set to MC.
What's the difference between wired and wireless inter-speaker connection?
The Sevens II includes a 4-meter speaker cable to connect the primary speaker to the secondary speaker. You can also link them wirelessly (no cable between speakers). The wired connection gives you full 96kHz/24-bit hi-res audio. Wireless gives you 48kHz quality — still excellent for everyday listening, and much more practical if running a cable across the room isn't possible.
How does the Sevens II compare to the original Sevens?
The II adds several features the original lacked: Wi-Fi streaming (AirPlay 2, Google Cast, Spotify Connect, Tidal Connect, Qobuz Connect), Dolby Atmos playback, Dirac Live room correction, HDMI 2.1 with eARC (replacing the older ARC standard), an optional wireless inter-speaker link, and the new one-piece BMC baffle. The core acoustic design — horn tweeter, 6.5-inch woofer — is also refined with the Jet Cerametallic driver and updated baffle geometry.
How does the Sevens II compare to the Fives II and Nines II?
All three models share the same Onkyo electronics platform, Dolby Atmos support, built-in streaming, and HDMI 2.1. The Fives II uses a 5.25-inch woofer and doesn't include Dirac Live or the optional wireless inter-speaker link. The Sevens II adds Dirac Live, the wireless link option, and a larger 6.5-inch woofer. The Nines II goes further with an 8-inch woofer, XLR inputs, and Roon Ready support — but it's a bigger speaker that needs a bigger room. Most rooms are a great fit for the Sevens II.
Does it work with a subwoofer?
Yes. The Sevens II has a dedicated single RCA subwoofer output on the back of the primary speaker. Connect any powered subwoofer with an RCA input for additional low-end impact. Browse our powered subwoofer collection for compatible options.
What streaming services are supported?
The Sevens II supports Apple AirPlay 2, Google Cast (Chromecast Audio), Spotify Connect, Tidal Connect, and Qobuz Connect over Wi-Fi. Bluetooth 5.4 (SBC and AAC codecs) is also available for direct wireless streaming from your phone or tablet. The Klipsch Connect Plus app manages inputs, streaming sources, and EQ settings.
What else do I need to get started?
Very little. The box includes the two speakers, an HDMI cable, a 4-meter inter-speaker cable, a power cord, the remote, and the Dirac Live calibration microphone. For a TV setup, you just need the TV itself. For vinyl, add a turntable with a moving magnet cartridge — the phono preamp is built in. If you want speaker stands, the compatible Klipsch KS-24 stands are sold separately. If you want more bass, a powered subwoofer can be added anytime via the subwoofer output.
