"Elegantly Designed and Built Like a Tank"
ELAC’s Miracord 50 turntable is beautifully designed to deliver exceptional vinyl playback. This feature-packed 'table is inspired by the iconic Miracord name from the Golden Age of Stereo, when turntables reigned supreme. The Miracord 50 is carefully engineered with a belt-drive motor and die-cast aluminum platter. A precision static balanced, straight-tube tonearm with removable headshell features a factory-mounted MM phono cartridge.
Designed with ultimate convenience in mind, the Miracord 50 is equipped with a built-in defeatable phono preamplifier, allowing you to add this turntable to virtually any music system. A switchable RCA stereo jack pair lets you choose to output a phono-level or a line-level output to your integrated amp or receiver.
"Performs very well, elegantly designed, and built like a tank," notes reviewer Kent H. in his post at vinylengine.com. "Beautiful styling. And reliable always."
The coloredvinylrecords.com website lists the Miracord 50 as one of the "Best New Turntables Released in 2018 Under $1,500," which puts the Miracord right up there with much higher priced models. "It's carefully engineered with a belt-drive motor and die-cast aluminum platter. The static balanced straight tonearm has precision bearings, anti-skate adjustment and removable bayonet-style headshell."
The Warmth of Analog Sound
This is a great turntable for getting in on the ground floor of the second analog revolution or for that all-inclusive turntable system for that second hi-fi. The resurgence of vinyl has created a groundswell of enthusiasm among audiophiles and music enthusiasts who have never before enjoyed the thrill of spinning an LP! The Miracord 50 is the perfect choice, whether you are building a new LP collection or rediscovering the magic of an existing record library.
Resonance is a big villain when it comes to getting the best quality from your vinyl playback. The Miracord 50 has that covered. Superior isolation is achieved with a chassis designed to minimize the sonic effects of vibration and feedback for improved signal purity. A low-noise DC servo motor drives a die-cast, high-inertia aluminum platter with special record mat via a rubber belt, resulting in stable speed and minimal wow and flutter.
Damped Aluminum Platter
The underside of the aluminum platter is covered with strategically-placed elastomer damping material. Not only does this material drastically reduce the platter resonance (the 'ring' you hear when the platter is tapped), but also due to the increased mass, the damping material also increases rotational inertia, improving speed accuracy. An undamped platter will ring like a bell, and that resonant energy is transferred through the vinyl back to the phono cartridge resulting in distortion.
Servo Speed Control
The Miracord 50 incorporates a precision servo speed control. A sensor and motor control circuit measure the actual platter speed at the bearing and corrects any deviations instantaneously in a closed-loop feedback system. This technique improves the Model 50 wow and flutter specification by over 50% and speed accuracy by 66% over the simple belt drive and DC motor.
Improved Main Bearing Assembly
The motor servo sensor for the speed feedback is integrated into an improved main bearing assembly. The platter rests on this bearing, so it takes not only the vertical load of the platter mass plus the record, but it also has to resist the torque applied to it via the drive belt and motor pulling laterally against it. A better bearing has lower friction and lower rumble, and this contributes to the excellent sound quality of the Miracord 50.
Precision Tonearm and Cartridge
A precision tonearm comes complete with the Miracord 50. The tonearm is a static-balance, straight- tube design with precision bearings, built-in anti-skate adjustment and removable bayonet-style headshell. A pre-mounted MM moving-magnet cartridge takes all the guesswork out of set-up and assures proper vertical tracking angle, tracking weight, and azimuth adjustment right out of the box.
Built-in Phono Preamplifier
Unlike most turntables, the Miracord 50 comes complete with a built-in defeatable phono preamp for correct RIAA equalization. That means you can add LP playback without having to add a costly phono stage to line-level preamps, receivers, or digital-only systems. Just plug it in, connect to your component, put on a record and enjoy rich LP sound!
Styled to complement any interior, the Miracord 50 is available with a silver chassis and gloss-black plinth. A hinged, tinted dustcover is included.
