Four Converter Chips and Nothing Else to Do
The DCD-3000NE is Denon's Reference disc player, and it puts four ES9018K2M converters inside one chassis. Most players use one. Four means each is asked to do less, and doing less is how a converter stays clean.
Those chips handle PCM to 384kHz and 32 bits, and DSD to 11.2MHz. Ultra AL32 Processing sits ahead of them, upsampling the disc data so the converters have far more information to work from.
It reads SACD and CD, plus recordable CDs and DVDs carrying files. This is a disc player and only a disc player, which is why the money went into conversion rather than a screen and a network stack.
Where 16.8 Kilograms Goes
Signal-to-noise measures 122dB from both SACD and CD. Dynamic range reaches 115dB on SACD. Distortion is 0.0005% from SACD and 0.0015% from CD. Those are reference-class figures rather than marketing ones.
The disc rides Denon's patented S.V.H. drive, the Suppress Vibration Hybrid mechanism. A player this heavy is heavy on purpose: mass and bracing keep the disc still, and a still disc is read more accurately.
The fixed analog outputs use machined brass RCA connectors, with optical and coaxial digital alongside. The case is 434mm wide, 405 deep and 138 tall, weighs 16.8kg and draws 35 watts.
What Reviewers Are Saying
ecoustics set out the converter arrangement: "For optimum playback from the 3000NE’s analog audio outputs, the player incorporates an ESS Sabre ES9018K2M 32-bit/384kHz quad digital-to-analog converter."
On the drive and the formats, the same piece notes that "the drive mechanism is a high-precision Suppress Vibration Hybrid Loader" and that "The 3000NE supports stereo audio playback from SACDs, CDs, CD-R/-RWs, DVD-R/-RWs, and DVD+R/+RWs".
Who Is This Player Best For?
- Your SACD collection deserves better — four converters and Ultra AL32 Processing give the DSD layer the treatment it was mastered for, which no universal player can match.
- You judge a source on measurements — 122dB signal-to-noise and 0.0005% distortion from SACD put this alongside separates costing considerably more.
- You want the disc held absolutely still — a patented S.V.H. drive in a 16.8kg chassis means vibration is designed out rather than corrected afterward.
- You value a fixed output done properly — machined brass RCA connectors carry the analog signal, with optical and coaxial digital there for CD when you want a different converter.
- You want one thing done completely — there is no network stack or screen absorbing the budget, so every part of the design serves getting music off a disc. Pair it with one of our integrated amplifiers.
How Does It Connect to Your System?
Run the fixed analog RCA outputs to your amplifier or preamplifier. This is how SACD reaches your system, since the DSD layer is converted by those four chips inside the player.
For CD you can use the same analog route, or take optical or coaxial to a converter you already own. Both digital outputs are there for exactly that choice.

Frequently Asked Questions
Which converters are inside?
Four ESS ES9018K2M chips handling PCM to 384kHz/32-bit and DSD to 11.2MHz, fed by Ultra AL32 Processing.
Which discs will it play?
SACD and CD, plus CD-R, CD-RW and recordable DVDs carrying files, with DSD supported up to 5.6MHz from disc.
How does SACD reach my amplifier?
Through the analog outputs, converted by the four chips inside. The digital outputs carry CD, which is why the internal conversion matters here.
What is the S.V.H. drive?
Denon's patented Suppress Vibration Hybrid mechanism, which holds the disc steady so the data comes off cleanly.
What does it measure?
122dB signal-to-noise from SACD and CD, 115dB dynamic range on SACD, and distortion of 0.0005% from SACD.
How big is it, and what is the warranty?
434 by 405 by 138mm and 16.8kg. Three years on parts and labor for the original purchaser, when bought new from an authorized dealer. It does not transfer if the unit is sold on.
