What a Power Conditioner Actually Does

A power conditioner doesn't add anything to your system's sound. It does three specific things: reduces high-frequency noise on your AC line, protects your equipment from surges and voltage extremes, and — in this model — provides a stored current reserve for amplifiers. The Elite-15 PFi handles all three across 13 outlets in a rack-mountable chassis.

How much sonic difference the filtering makes depends on how noisy your line is to begin with. Amplifiers draw current in bursts, and on a musical transient a large amp can momentarily demand more than the wall can comfortably supply. Power Factor Technology addresses that by storing energy: the four dedicated amplifier outlets provide more than 3 amps of continuous current reserve and over 45 amps of peak charge, sitting ready for the moments your amp asks for it.

The secondary effect is arguably the more useful one. Because the amplifier draws from the reserve rather than yanking hard on the shared line, its current demands are far less likely to modulate the supply feeding your source components and processor. Whether you hear a difference in the amplifier's own output depends heavily on your amp, your room, and how hard you drive it — but keeping amplifier current spikes off your low-level gear's supply is sound engineering regardless.

Linear Filtering Technology (LiFT)

Inexpensive filters attenuate noise unevenly, and some add noise back onto the line through resonant peaking in the filter itself. Furman's approach is a linear attenuation curve — noise reduced evenly across a wide bandwidth rather than dumped in one region and amplified in another.

The 13 outlets are split into three isolated banks, which keeps noise generated by one component out of the power feeding the others. One bank adds ultrasonic filtering for digital and video gear, whose switching noise is the most likely to leak back into analog components.

Series Multi-Stage Protection That Doesn't Wear Out

Conventional surge protectors use sacrificial MOVs that degrade with every surge they absorb — quietly, with no indication they've stopped protecting — and shunt surge energy to ground, where it can contaminate the ground reference your components share.

Furman's Series Multi-Stage Protection is non-sacrificial: it withstands repeated high-voltage spikes without consuming itself, and zero-ground-contamination circuitry keeps surge energy off the ground line. Practical Rack Features

Twelve-volt triggering switches selected outlets with the rest of your system, and the two amplifier outlets on the trigger use a five-second delay so your amps come up after your sources — the right order for avoiding turn-on thumps. Rear-panel outlets use hospital-grade connectors that grip plugs firmly, which matters more than it sounds in a rack that gets moved.

This is a 15-amp unit. It's designed for steady 15-amp operation on a 15-amp circuit. Total continuous draw is limited to roughly 1400–1750 watts depending on line voltage, so tally your components' draw before committing — particularly if you're running large separate amplifiers.

It filters and protects; it does not regulate voltage. The Elite-15 PFi will not correct a chronically low or high supply voltage.
