The Gold Dome, and a Front Baffle of Real Wood
The Bronze 50 7G is a two-way standmount, and a 6-inch C-CAM bass-mid driver does the heavy work. A 25 mm C-CAM Gold Dome tweeter takes over at 3.0 kHz, behind an aluminum grille patterned in small hexagons.
The front baffle is real wood veneered plywood. It is set slightly apart from the cabinet body, so you can see it is a separate piece. Each cabinet is 13.3 inches tall, 7.3 wide and 12.9 deep.
C-CAM, and Why the Cone Is Metal
C-CAM stands for Ceramic-Coated Aluminum Magnesium. Monitor Audio prefers metal cones because they are light but stiff. The cone moves more like a piston, and bends less as it travels. Less bending means less distortion.
The Numbers, and What They Ask of You
Monitor Audio quotes an in-room response of 41 Hz to 30 kHz at minus 6 dB. Sensitivity is 86 dB. Nominal impedance is 8 ohms. The minimum is 4.0 ohms, at 200 Hz.
The recommendation is 30 to 100 watts into 8 ohms. If your amplifier is rated into 4 ohms, that becomes 50 to 200 watts. Continuous power handling is 100 watts, and peak output is quoted at 112 dB.
The Ports Come With Foam Inserts
Each cabinet is ported at the back. Monitor Audio supplies foam inserts to rein the bass in. They help, but they are no substitute for space. These speakers reward being pulled out into the room.
What Reviewers Are Saying
Kashfia Kabir gave the Bronze 50 7G five stars for sound, build and compatibility in What Hi-Fi? on September 25, 2025: "Monitor Audio has done a terrific job with the new Bronze 50 7G standmounts."
On the sound: "For a speaker at this price level, the Bronze 7G are unusually precise and controlled." Her one caveat: they "can sound a little uptight on occasion, but not so much that it becomes an issue".
Paul Rigby, reviewing for The Audiophile Man on December 17, 2025, heard "a clean, clear and very exciting sound presentation that can easily detach you from your listening room and send you on a musical journey".
Who Are These Bookshelf Speakers Best For?
- You want a speaker that grabs you — the character here is clear, fast and front-footed rather than polite, which is exactly what makes them hold your attention on the first track
- Bass matters to you — Rigby’s verdict on the low end: "And bass? For the price and size of the cabinets? Beautiful."
- You might bi-wire one day — each rear panel carries bi-wire terminals, so a single run works now and you can split the links later without changing speakers
- Your amplifier is ordinary, not enormous — 86 dB sensitivity and a 30 to 100 watt window into 8 ohms make these an easy match, and one of our integrated amplifiers in that range will do nicely
- You can give them room to breathe — foam port inserts are supplied, but these sound best pulled away from the back wall, so a shelf pushed against plasterboard is the one placement to avoid
How Do They Connect to Your System?
Each rear panel carries bi-wire terminals. Leave the links in place and run a single cable from your amplifier for a conventional hookup, or take the links out and run separate cable to the treble and bass sections instead.
Start with the cabinets about 12 inches from the back wall, on stands, and leave the ports clear. Then move them by small amounts until the stereo image locks in. Keep both cable runs the same length.
Pairs Well With
What finishes the setup. These are the categories most Bronze 50 7G owners shop next.
- Speaker stands — Monitor Audio’s own ST-2 is the matching stand, and we stock it
- Integrated amplifiers — 30 to 100 watts into 8 ohms is the window
- Speaker cables — two runs per side if you decide to bi-wire
- Subwoofers — for anything below the 41 Hz mark
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I bi-wire them?
Yes. Both rear panels carry bi-wire terminals. Remove the links and run separate cable to each pair, or feed them from separate amplifier channels if you would rather bi-amplify.
What amplifier do they need?
Monitor Audio recommends 30 to 100 watts into 8 ohms, or 50 to 200 watts into 4 ohms. At 86 dB sensitivity they are not fussy, and reviewers have found them easy to partner.
Do stands come with them?
Stands are separate. Monitor Audio makes the ST-2 specifically for standmounts of this size, and a stand suits these better than a shelf does.
How far from the wall should they sit?
Begin around 12 inches out and adjust from there. The ports fire backwards, so crowding the wall thickens the bass. Use the supplied foam inserts only if you cannot find the space.
How big and heavy are they?
Each cabinet measures roughly 13.3 by 7.3 by 12.9 inches, and weighs 14 pounds 2 ounces. They ship as a pair, and Monitor Audio covers them for five years.
What does the next range up add?
The Monitor Audio Silver 50 8G moves to the RST III cone, reaches 35 kHz, and puts four more pounds into each cabinet.
