A First Real System, in One Box
The NAD C 328 gives you 50 watts per channel into 8 or 4 ohms, and it already contains the parts most people buy separately. There is a DAC for digital sources, a moving-magnet phono stage for a turntable, Bluetooth for a phone and a dedicated headphone amplifier.
That matters more than the watts. A turntable, a television, a laptop and a phone can all connect on day one, and the only other thing you need to buy is a pair of speakers and the cable to reach them.
The Phono Stage Is Not an Afterthought
NAD builds in a moving-magnet input with accurate RIAA equalization, and it measures better than 75dB signal-to-noise. Plenty of amplifiers at this price leave phono out entirely, which turns a turntable into a two-purchase project.
There is a subwoofer output too. A small pair of standmount speakers can be given a proper bottom end later, without replacing the speakers you already chose or rewiring anything in the rack.
HybridDigital, and Why It Runs Cool
NAD's HybridDigital amplifier design wastes far less energy as heat than a traditional Class AB circuit. That is why 50 watts a channel fits in a case just 70mm tall and 4.9kg, and why it can sit on a shelf without ventilation space around it.
Quiet Where It Counts
Distortion measures under 0.005% at 1V from the line stage and under 0.03% at the speaker terminals. Signal-to-noise is better than 100dB A-weighted on the analog inputs and better than 95dB at the speaker output. Frequency response holds within 0.3dB.
Standby draw is half a watt, and switching the unit fully off takes it to zero. The chassis measures 435 by 70 by 285mm, so it fits a normal shelf rather than demanding a rack.
