"Home Theater System of the Year Award" from The Perfect Vision

"World's Best $1K Speaker?"

The February 2007 issue of The Absolute Sound magazine poses the question on its cover: Is the NHT Classic Three the "World's Best $1K Speaker?" Chris Martens answers the question in his cover story feature. "No other affordable bookshelf speaker I've heard does a better job… than NHTs Classic Threes," he concludes.

Martens calls the Classic Three "a three-way, stand-mount monitor that reproduces music with refinement, resolution, and imaging specificity that few affordable two-way speakers can match."

The Perfect Vision magazine liked the NHT so well, that it gave its "Home Theater System of the Year Award" to the Classic Four, Classic Three, and Classic Three C speakers.

"A Superb Value," Says Stereophile

Robert J. Reina praised the Classic Three to the hilt in the November 2006 issue of Stereophile. "At $800/pair, the Classic Three is a superb value, particularly for those listening rooms in which size and cosmetics are important but whose owners are reluctant to give up performance in bass definition and extension and high level dynamics."

Reina goes on to say, "In every one of my listening sessions, the NHT Classic Three sounded like a larger, more expensive speaker."

NHT's Best Bookshelfer Ever

Quite simply, the Three is the best bookshelf speaker that NHT has ever made. And that's saying a lot, considering the praise that NHT's bookshelf models have received in the audiophile press over the years.

As one of the most popular speakers in NHT's new Classic series, the Three is a three-way acoustic suspension design that features a newly developed 6.5" aluminum cone bass driver and NHT's exclusive midrange / tweeter assembly.

"They Excel in Every Category "

"The most impressive aspect of NHT's new Classic designs is that they're such well-rounded products," writes Steve Guttenberg in his April 2007 Home Theater magazine review of NHT's Classic Four, Classic Three, and Classic Three C center speakers. "They excel in every category: build quality, value, features, and performance."

"Few systems this price can match the Classics' openness, detail, and three-dimensionality -- qualities guaranteed to enhance your enjoyment of music and films," reports Chris Martens in his December 2006 The Perfect Vision review of NHT's Classic Three, Four, and Three C center speakers. "The Classics' imaging is just scary good."

Your Entry to "Precious Musical Secrets"

"When speakers get this good, listeners feel they are being let in on precious musical secrets -- as if granted the privilege of hearing the music from the inside out, just as musicians often hear their own performances," observes Adam Voorhes in The Absolute Sound.

Offering a wide listening area, deep bass extension, and high power handling, the Three is the ultimate compact speaker for music and home theater. And it's wall mountable, too.

Sound-Enhancing, Graceful Cabinets

While the Classic series cabinets are certainly beautiful, their shape is all about the business of making great sound. The graceful cabinets place every driver into a consistent predictable acoustical environment. For example, variable radius edges on the cabinet sides randomize diffraction from the midrange and tweeter drivers, aiding the speakers' dispersion of midrange and high-frequency sounds.

An 'Air Spring' Controls Cone Motion

NHT's bookshelf speakers are acoustic suspension designs that use nature's perfect spring force - air - to control the cone motion, instead of a heavy and unpredictable mechanical suspension. It takes a little more development time and amplifier power to do an acoustic suspension design justice, but the greatly decreased distortion, deeper bass response, and increased detail are well worth it.

Creating a Large Listening Area

By using two low distortion drivers mounted close together on a single plate, NHT is able to produce a speaker with a large listening area, lower distortion, and higher power handling than typical two-way designs.

All of the woofers in the Classic line feature frames made from BMC (Bulk Molding Compound). Usually a designer has to choose between inexpensive, mechanically sound materials such as ABS plastic and stamped steel, or expensive materials such as cast aluminum or magnesium that are ideal acoustically and mechanically. BMC delivers the best of both worlds. It is a cost effective material that is immensely stiff and easily shaped into acoustically ideal shapes.

Beautiful Environmentally Friendly Cabinet

The cabinet is made with MDF, a board manufactured primarily of wood residues from the production of lumber and plywood with a low percentage of virgin tree wood. NHT finishes them with seven coats of hand-finished polyurethane applied in a "solid particle" method that's safe for the environment. This finish is then sealed with two coats of automotive grade clear-coat to protect the finish. By avoiding exotic wood veneers, and using materials such as MDF, NHT doesn't sacrifice scarce natural resources to make acoustically sound furniture grade cabinets.

"NHT Classic Three ... reproduces music with refinement, resolution, and imaging specificity that few affordable two-way speakers can match."

"No other affordable bookshelf speaker I've heard does a better job ... than NHT's Classic Three."

-- Chris Martins, The Absolute Sound, February, 2007.

"The Classics present huge, spacious, three-dimensional soundstages -- the kind normally heard only from pricey high-end designs. The Classics' imaging is just scary good. For example, on John Abercrombie, Eddie Gomez, and Gene Jackson's Structures [Chesky SACD], a multichannel jazz recording that has no center channel mix, the Classic Fours produced such compelling center-fill images that guest listeners swore the center channel speaker was playing (though it was not)."

"The point is that the Classics' spatial characteristics can lift listeners out of their comfort zones to place them in the center of the action."

"Overall, I believe NHT's Classic system stands as a new mid-priced performance leader. Few systems this price can match the Classics' openness, detail, and three-dimensionality -- qualities guaranteed to enhance your enjoyment of music and films."

- Chris Martins' review of NHT's Classic Three, Four, and Three C center speakers, The Perfect Vision, December 2006

"Many affordable two-way speakers can sound somewhat compromised, as if their woofers are being forced to go higher and tweeters to go lower than would normally be optimal. The Classic Threes, however, neatly sidestep this problem by covering the middle range of the music with dedicated 2" dome midrange drivers that offer excellent transient speed, the ability to resolve details well, and a healthy measure of dynamic punch."

"When speakers get this good, listeners feel they are being let in on precious musical secrets -- as if granted the privilege of hearing the music from the inside out, just as musicians often hear their own performances. I've enjoyed this experience with fine mid-priced and expensive speakers before, but rarely with ones that cost as little as the Classic Threes do."

- Adam Voohes, The Absolute Sound, February 2007
