"Builds on Excellence"
The RM-9.2 is a new step into affordable high performance from Pro-Ject. This table is a mass loaded design with a 7.7 lb, 11.8" thick acrylic platter and a clamp assembly set on top of an inverted thrust bearing. This gives the table great speed stability as it raises the center of gravity of the rotating platter.
"An update of the RM-9.1, which Jim Hannon reviewed in these pages and which also received a Product of the Year Award in 2006, the 9.2 builds on that excellence with a few key upgrades," reports Wayne Garcia in the December 2010 issue of The Absolute Sound magazine.
This special SuperPack version of the Perspex also includes the critically acclaimed Sumiko Blue Point Special EVO III phono cartridge and Connect-it tonearm cable.
To reduce motor noise, the motor is physically separated from the base, and the new 'opposing magnet' feet that fit into the underside of the plinth provide support without physical contact via a magnetic field. This provides an ingenious way of isolating the assembly from room-borne vibration.
New 9cc Evolution Tonearm
A new 9" tonearm, the 9cc Evolution, incorporates a conical carbon fiber arm tube with integrated headshell made of a single piece of carbon fiber and new ultra-rigid bearing assembly to give you the ability to use more massive and lower compliant moving coil cartridges.
The headshell and conical armtube are formed from a single piece of carbon fiber for maximum rigidity and resonance control. The armtube stills allows azimuth adjustments, despite the fixed headshell. The vertical tracking angle is also adjustable. Nominal speeds are 33-1/3 rpm and 45 rpm.
Chassis-mounted female RCA connectors on the rear panel allow you to use any single ended interconnects. A brass record clamp is included.
SuperPack Option
For an even better value, the RM-9.2is also available in a special SuperPack that includes the critically acclaimed Sumiko Blue Point Special EVO III phono cartridge and Connect-it tonearm cable.
Sumiko Blue Point Special EVO III Phono Cartridge
As the evolution of the ever-popular Sumiko Blue Point Special, the EVO III raises the performance bar even higher at this highly competitive price point. Its tonal balance is remarkably smooth, exhibiting a fundamental richness and overall warmth without sacrificing musical detail and resolution. Soundstage focus and channel separation are exemplary, as is the cartridge's ability to maintain a coherent consistency that reproduces music as a perceptual whole.
"The EVO III provided a big helping of moving coil goodness, yet was refreshingly free of common moving coil quirks and foibles," reports the April 2004 issue of The Absolute Sound magazine. "Enthusiastically recommended."
The Blue Point Special's features include a high-output moving coil design with 2.5-mV output, a chemically coated aluminum cantilever with 0.3mm x 0.7mm elliptical stylus, and an ultra low-resonance open generator design. The resonance controlled mounting system provides the lowest mechanical impedance. The EVO III is highly compatible with most modern tonearms. |
