"We Could Not Believe the Sound," Says Rolling Stone
The foxL v2 defies conventional wisdom about sound quality and speaker size. This miniature audiophile portable music system has to be heard to be believed. It really is that good for the size and price. Wall or battery powered, wired or wireless, the foxL v2 is for smart phones, iPads, mp3 players, laptops, mobile gaming, and much more.
To achieve audiophile-approved sound quality and its remarkable eight-octave bandwidth, the tiny foxL utilizes highly advanced speaker technologies found nowhere else, regardless of size or price. Onboard amplification is supplied by four ultra high-efficiency digital amplifiers delivering total output power up to 8 watts at <0.1%THD.
"We could not believe the sound that came out of these tiny speakers," says Rolling Stone magazine. "The foxL (v2 Bluetooth) has astonishing sound for its size; The amount of bass and its complex range make the speaker's 2.2-inch by 5.6-inch by 1.4-inch dimensions seem like an optical illusion."
"Sound is Jaw-droppingly Big"
"The foxL's sound is jaw-droppingly big, in dramatic inverse proportion to its size," raves Macworld magazine for January 13, 2010. "Upper-bass response is very impressive for such a small device, especially when the FoxL is positioned near a wall."
"The Soundmatters foxL is tiny, even for a portable speaker, but has a well-muscled sound that beats out squawk boxes twice its size," marvels Chris Jones at Wired.com.
"There was more bass than I've ever heard from a device this size," says Mark Fleischmann in Home Theater Magazine. "Given the choice between this and having something clamped on my head or stuck in my ears for long periods, I'd choose this..."
Linear Magnetic Drive™ Twoofer™
Unlike other portable speaker systems, foxL is engineered around a pair of proprietary, highly sophisticated acoustic drivers, unique in their ability to reproduce both extreme high (tweeter) and low (woofer) frequencies from a single very small diameter (25mm) dome speaker, dubbed the Twoofer.
Covered by a portfolio of patents, the Twoofer incorporates Soundmatter's Linear Magnetic Drive topology featuring field-focused, back-to-back, dual Extreme-Energy™ neodymium magnets and a 1-inch, dual voice coil.
BassBattery™ and Flatmagic™ Technologies
The foxL's dual digitally powered Twoofers are assisted in their task of reproducing low frequencies by a miniaturized version of the high mass 'moving-wall' passive bass radiators found in Soundmatters' award-winning SUBstage home subwoofers.
To add the additional bass driver without compromising stringent weight and space restrictions, Soundmatters engineers developed an innovative solution called the BassBattery™. This patent-pending design was created by rubber-encasing foxL's built-in high capacity, lithium-ion battery, enabling it to provide the mass for an acoustic suspension bass driver.
'Skintight' DomeForward™ Enclosure
The foxL incorporates high-tech glass-filled composite walls to form a 'skintight' ultra-rigid totally sealed acoustic enclosure. Due to its high-tech look, the foxL enclosure is often confused with metal, but it's much lighter for ultimate portability.
Unlike other speaker manufacturers that mount their acoustic drivers in a manner that actually obstructs their sound – especially if the listener is off-axis from the front of the speakers’ direct 'line of sight- – foxL’s Twoofer speakers are mounted 'dome forward' from the enclosure. They're protected by a grille designed to maximize acoustic transparency. As a result, foxL sounds open and airy. |
