The BD5004's audio capabilities are just as impressive as the picture quality. Once the player's HD audio bitstream is outputted to a connected receiver in your home entertainment system, the signal can then be decoded to high-performance audio formats including Dolby Digital Plus, Dolby True HD and DTS HD Master Audio.
Feature-Packed Design
The BD5004 is the only player you'll need for high-definition Blu-ray movie discs and their recordable cousins, DVD movie discs (including recordable), the whole family of conventional and recordable audio CDs, even those with MP3- and WMA-encoded content, photo CDs with JPEGs or Kodak-format pictures, and even DivX 6-encoded compressed video discs!
There's no "bare bones" Blu-ray capability either. Instead, the BD5004 boasts full "Bonus View" capability (via Profile 2.0). That means the BD5004 comes with expanded internal memory and secondary video and audio decoders for picture-in-picture capability.
The front panel SD card reader lets you enjoy your custom playlists through your home theater system. Or view photos on your big-screen TV.
Advanced Audio Capabilities
On the audio side, the BD5004 outputs the newest audio formats like Dolby TrueHD and DTS HD Master Audio via HDMI for decoding in an A/V receiver or processor. In keeping with Marantz's tradition of continuous development, the HDMI output features a wide bandwidth transmitter that conforms to HDMI Version 1.3a specifications.
If you're an audiophile, you'll appreciate the BD5004's Pure Direct capability. It lets you turn off the display and video outputs (each or both) to minimize even the most subtle interferences that might interfere with your aural enjoyment. And the Programmed Playback feature lets you easily program a favored track sequence while you're playing CDs.
The Marantz advantage shows in superb video reproduction, too, as the BD5004 outputs 1080p video signals at either 24 or 30 full frames per second. This feature avoids the inevitable compromises that the standard 3:2 pulldown process inflicts on every film-based movie. The BD5004 also supports innovations like Deep Color so you'll be using this disc player for years into the future.
High-Definition Video Processor
The high-definition video processor in the BD5004 provides ultra-clear output for both Blu-ray discs and conventional DVDs. The processor also decodes DivX 6 discs and is certified by DivX for 1080p Blu-ray playback.
A Fine Picture Control lets you trim key video performance parameters (contrast, brightness, sharpness, color, gamma, and noise reduction) for optimal video enjoyment through the HDMI output.
For around-the-clock enjoyment, the BD5004 features a dynamic range control for the audio portion of your A/V signal so you won't disturb other household members (or your neighbors) when you're watching that action flick at 3 AM.
Even More Features
The Glow-key hand-held remote controller lets you see what keys you're pushing so you don't suddenly interrupt your favorite movie, even in a darkened room. Want to turn the display down? That's easy thanks to a display dimmer control. An automatic screen saver circuit reduces screen brightness by 75% when you're not watching.
A Dialog Speed adjustment lets you speed up playback without interrupting the audio signal provided you're watching a disc with a Dolby Digital-encoded soundtrack. Direct Chapter call lets you go directly to your favorite scenes and the Zoom function makes it easy to focus on crucial details for that extra enjoyment edge.
The exterior is completely in tune with the internal circuitry. The aluminum and reinforced resin composite front panel damps resonance as it blends with virtually any décor.
