HDAM (Hyper Dynamic Amplifier Module) Technology
The AV8801 further enhances audio quality by delicately handling all signals via proprietary HDAM technology.
The Marantz HDAM (Hyper Dynamic Amplifier Module) is a high-speed, discrete (part-by-part), custom circuit that utilizes current feedback in order to preserve fine musical detail. HDAM circuits are custom tuned to individual products and enhance performance in ways that no off-the-shelf component can. For the AV8801, Marantz chose 13 HDAM devices specifically geared to providing the best sound possible.
Audyssey MultEQ XT32… And More
Built-in Audyssey MultEQ XT32 automatic room measurement and correction provides easy setup, via the included microphone, and custom generates high resolution digital filters for each speaker and subwoofer, providing smooth tailored acoustic response with correction in both frequency and time domains (conventional equalization only provides frequency tailoring).
The AV8801 is also equipped with Audyssey’s LFC (low frequency containment) option, which custom tailors deep bass response to minimize deep bass leakage into adjacent rooms or apartments, while still providing a satisfying wide range listening experience.
Audyssey Dynamic Volume monitors and corrects for annoying jumps in signal levels, providing a satisfying listening experience at any volume setting, and Audyssey Dynamic EQ provides precision frequency contouring that delivers enjoyable wide range sound quality even at reduced listening levels, ideal for late-night listening. Audyssey Sub EQ HT processing optimizes dual subwoofer setups, providing custom deep bass tailoring for the smoothest and most dynamic deep bass response from both subs.
Advanced High-Resolution Video Processing and Decoding
The video section of the AV-8801 features advanced high-resolution video processing and decoding, and is equipped with video upscaling that upconverts standard definition (SD) video sources from legacy components to high definition. For compatibility with the latest Ultra High Definition (4K) displays, the AV8801 features the ability to upconvert SD and HD to Ultra High Definition (4K), and it can also accept and pass-through 4K content.
Full Suite of Video Connectivity Options
A full suite of video connectivity options includes multiple assignable composite and component video inputs, along with no less than 7 HDMI inputs, including a front panel HDMI input that lets you easily connect an HDMI enabled portable device. There are 3 HDMI outputs, including dual outputs for the main zone, which lets you connect two HD displays, such as a flat panel HDTV and an HD front projector. The third HDMI output let’s you enjoy a different program in another room, and the InstaPrevue function let’s you preview video from connected HDMI sources in multiple picture-in-picture windows.
192 kHz/32-bit DACs on All Channels
To handle today’s wideband high dynamic range content, the audio section is equipped with the latest high resolution 192 kHz/32-bit DACs on all channels. The AV8801 can decode WAV, FLAC and ALAC audio files, and includes gapless audio playback.
For maximum system configuration capability, the AV8801 is equipped with both unbalanced (RCA) and balanced (XLR) audio outputs. The balanced XLR terminals offer +40dB rejection of induced noise in the cable while providing a superior mechanical connection. The AV8801 also incorporates dedicated balanced Inputs for sources such as SACD, making the UD7007 a perfect companion as it features balanced outputs.
Vinyl fans will surely appreciate the inclusion of a phono input, and there’s no need for a separate tuner, as the AV8801 features a built-in HD Radio tuner. With HD Radio, AM sounds like FM, and FM sounds like CD.
Full Networking Capabilities
The AV8801 includes full networking capabilities, including a four-port Ethernet switch that lets you make one connection to your home LAN with three additional connections available so you can connect other source components, such as a network-capable Blu-ray player. AirPlay lets you stream your favorite content from a variety of Apple devices, such as an iPod touch, iPhone or iPad, and the AV8801 includes network streaming functions such as Pandora and SiriusXM internet radio as well as Spotify, along with the ability to stream music and photos over the home network.
Whether you are a fan of Apple or Android, Marantz has apps that allow for full control of the AV8801. Both apps are elegant looking and easy to operate.
Copper-Plated Chassis
A copper plated steel chassis creates a barrier for maximum isolation from external vibration as well as electromagnetic and radio frequency interference, allowing the AV8801 to communicate the most delicate audio program with absolute clarity. For even more rigidity, the top cover is made up of three individual pieces attached to both sides of the chassis. In addition, the AV8801 utilizes a double brace that attaches the front and back together for 'tri box' construction, which further strengthens the unit.
Toroidal Transformer
The AV8801's toroidal transformer serves a dual purpose. First, it operates more efficiently enabling the power supply to flawlessly respond to demanding musical transients. Second, it produces less spurious magnetic energy which helps lower the noise floor for ultra-quiet operation.
Marantz MM8077 7-Channel Power Amplifier
Designed for the ultimate music and movie surround sound experience, the Marantz MM8077 7-channel power amplifier delivers impressive levels of power and detail. It is rated at 150 watts per channel into 8 ohms, and 180 watts per channel into 6 ohms for sound that will fill the largest rooms.
The MM8077's beautifully designed power supply features a high current toroidal power transformer along with high power (71WVDC) filter capacitors with a total 100,000 µF capacitance to easily handle sharp short-term transient peaks.
Current Feedback Technology
Featuring Marantz's unique current feedback discrete power amp output stages that are identical for all channels, the MM8077 is equipped with multiple high current discrete power transistors that feature high slew rate and wide operating bandwidth to extract the most detail from today's high resolution audio formats.
Current feedback design is an extraordinary circuit that accurately tracks quickly changing, wide bandwidth musical signals for greater resolution of fine musical detail. The amplifiers themselves are custom-designed by Marantz entirely with discrete components, so you don't suffer any of the built-in limitations of off-the-shelf integrated circuits.
Cooler Runnings
The output devices are mounted on Marantz's unique dual extruded aluminum alloy heat sink assembly, configured in a tunnel arrangement that provides both passive and active cooling. The massive heat sinks feature multiple ribbed fins that provide a large passive cooling area, and the assembly is book-ended with a quiet fan that automatically kicks in to provide near silent active cooling when the soundtrack heats up. As the fan is mounted internally directly to the heat sinks – and not externally to the chassis cover as is often the case – even when it's running, it's designed to be whisper quiet.
Balanced and Unbalanced Inputs
For maximum connectivity, the MM8077 features both unbalanced (RCA) and balanced (XLR) inputs, and each amp channel can be configured to use your choice of input connector. The loudspeaker terminals feature audiophile-grade construction, and are gold-plated for maximum signal transfer, and they can easily handle a wide range of audiophile speaker cable connectors.
Even More Attention to Detail
The MM8077 features a DC trigger input for external power on/off control, and there's also dual RC-5 remote control in/out jacks for connection to a compatible Marantz A/V preamp/processor.
The copper-plated chassis provides isolation from extraneous noise, and features a multi-layer reinforced bottom panel assembly for maximum rigidity along with triple-layer top cover. Elegantly finished in anodized black satin, the MM8077 features the classic Marantz ringed porthole display with a blue illumination accent that includes a display on/off function. |
