They'll Redefine Your Idea of Bookshelf Speakers
The term 'bookshelf speakers' sounds so stuffy. It just doesn't do justice to the sleek and windswept look of MartinLogan's awesome Motion 4 speakers. Set 'em next to your TV, mount them on the wall, or place them on a stand. They work great and sound BIG as front channel speakers in a mid-size home theater system or as surround speakers in a larger set-up.
The October 2010 issue of Sound & Vision magazine awarded the Motion series speaker system its "Certified & Recommended" honors. Reviewing a MartinLogan Motion system consisting of the Motion 12, Motion 8, Motion 4, and a Dynamo 1000 powered sub, Daniel Kumin says, "ML's suite produced very convincing movie-sound playback… The Motions excelled in differentiating American Gangster's many different street-scene and interior ambiences, and vividly cranked out its kick-heavy '70s-soul soundtrack."
"A Breakthrough in Budget Speaker Performance"
"This is truly a breakthrough in budget speaker performance. No one on the staff guessed the price on the Motion 4’s," notes Jeff Dorgay in TONEAudio magazine, which award the Motion 4 an "Exceptional Value Award" for 2010. "These speakers have got to be one of the best buys in high end audio today."
Inspired by the clarity and detail of MartinLogan's ultra-high-end electrostatic loudspeakers, Motion 2 features a Folded Motion™ tweeter and exclusive Folded Motion™ Cascading Bass Port technology in a compact and affordable package.
Key to Motion 4's performance is the lightning fast response of the tweeter's lightweight diaphragm combined with a large surface area (eight-times that of a typical one-inch dome tweeter). Motion 4 also has a 4" woofer with rigid dust cap and boasts bass response down to a surprisingly low 70 Hz.
The MartinLogan Motion Series
Inspired by MartinLogan's ultra-high-end electrostatic loudspeakers, the Motion Series was created to provide stunning sound for your ultimate-performance home theater or stereo. MartinLogan's dedicated in-house engineers carefully crafted the Motion Series to create an extremely affordable and compact product line that seamlessly blends the company's exquisite Folded Motion™ transducers with powerful, compact bass technology. The result is a smooth, refined sound with stunning dynamic range and jaw-dropping clarity.
What makes the Motion Series sound so amazing? MartinLogan's dedicated in-house engineering team started by utilizing and refining the most advanced, compact technologies and combining them with innovative engineering. The result is an emotionally engaging sound that rivals (and most times trounces) traditional loudspeakers of similar size and price.
Folded Motion™ Tweeter
MartinLogan's exclusive and highly innovative Folded Motion™ Tweeter helps gives Motion speakers their fantastically realistic highs. Lightning fast transient response, combined with a large surface area (eight-times that of a typical 1" dome tweeter) creates clear, highly dynamic, and precise sound.
The Folded Motion™ Tweeter works by moving air (which creates sound) perpendicular to the folded ridges of the diaphragm, similar to how an accordion works. This extremely low mass diaphragm "squeezes" air and requires almost 90 percent less excursion than the typical 1" dome tweeter, which drastically minimizes distortion while providing a lighting fast response time. The increased surface area also provides a wide, yet controlled sound dispersion to create a realistic and carefully etched sound stage.
Folded Motion™ Cascading Bass Port
MartinLogan engineers were faced with a daunting task with the Motion 4. They wanted to create a compact speaker with low-end bass reproduction found in speakers much, much larger. After many sleepless nights and a myriad of prototypes, they created the Folded Motion™ Cascading Bass Port. This brilliant solution allows a long tuned port, which is folded over itself (think of a trombone's tuning arm) to be compacted and squeezed into the Motion 4. The result is amazingly detailed low bass that can play at high volumes with minimum distortion, all thanks to the elegantly simple cascading fold that slows down and controls the air motion of the bass waves.
Contributing to the superb performance is the legendary Vojtko™ crossover. It is carefully hand-built using only the finest polyester film and low DF electrolytic capacitors, custom air-core coils, and low DCR steel laminate inductor for vanishingly low distortion and seamless driver integration. This precision-tuned network preserves even the most microscopic sonic nuances while handling the full dynamics of any source.
Complementing Motion's sonic accuracy is elegant yet understated styling. Flawless high-gloss, piano black finishes and subtle curves, along with MartinLogan's signature perforated grille, gives Motion Series speakers an elegant and timeless look. Tower models feature a real-wood veneer finish and a stylish aesthetic certain to blend with any decor.
Convenient push-style speaker terminals and curved inserts help guide speaker wire effortlessly into place. The rubber end caps on the terminal are also removable for the use of banana plugs instead of bare wire. So simple, you'll actually enjoy hooking up these speakers.
A 3/18-16 threaded insert located on the backs of the Motion 4 speaker accommodates installations where stand or wall mounting is desired.
