Reviewing a MartinLogan Motion system consisting of the Motion 12, Motion 8, Motion 4, and a Dynamo 1000 powered sub, Daniel Kumin says, "ML's suite produced very convincing movie-sound playback… The Motions excelled in differentiating American Gangster's many different street-scene and interior ambiences, and vividly cranked out its kick-heavy '70s-soul soundtrack."
Key to Motion 8's performance is the lightning fast response of the tweeter's lightweight diaphragm combined with a large surface area (eight-times that of a typical one-inch dome tweeter). Motion 8 also has dual 4" woofers for bass response down to a highly respectable 70 Hz. The drivers' paper cones are doped for stability and damping.

Folded Motion™ Tweeter
MartinLogan's exclusive and highly innovative Folded Motion™ Tweeter helps gives Motion speakers their fantastically realistic highs. Lightning fast transient response, combined with a large surface area (eight-times that of a typical 1" dome tweeter) creates clear, highly dynamic, and precise sound.
The Folded Motion™ Tweeter works by moving air (which creates sound) perpendicular to the folded ridges of the diaphragm, similar to how an accordion works. This extremely low mass diaphragm "squeezes" air and requires almost 90 percent less excursion than the typical 1" dome tweeter, which drastically minimizes distortion while providing a lighting fast response time. The increased surface area also provides a wide, yet controlled sound dispersion to create a realistic and carefully etched sound stage.
Vojtko™ Crossover
Contributing to the superb performance is the legendary Vojtko™ crossover. It is carefully hand-built using only the finest polyester film and low DF electrolytic capacitors, custom air-core coils, and low DCR steel laminate inductor for vanishingly low distortion and seamless driver integration. This precision-tuned network preserves even the most microscopic sonic nuances while handling the full dynamics of any source.
