Clean, Simple, & Superb MM / MC Phono Stage
"Surprised the Hell Out of Me," Says Michael Fremer
Hi-fi Choice Magazine "Product of the Year"
Many of today's stereo and AV amplifiers and receivers have either eliminated the phonograph input altogether, or included a low cost and low performance circuit for connecting your turntable.
The NAD PP2 phono preamplifier offers superb performance in a clean and simple package for a very reasonable cost. The NAD PP2 is a vastly improved successor to the very popular PP1, which received wide acclaim worldwide.
"This tiny, 1-lb box surprised the hell out of me, both for its quiet and for the sound it made" reports Michael Fremer in the October 2004 issue of Stereophile. "I routinely fooled listeners into thinking they were hearing one of the two more expensive phono preamps in this mini-survey. That's how good the PP-2 was at doing what it did well…"
The NADPP2 also wowed them across the pond, winning Hi-Fi Choice magazine's "Product of the Year" award for 2004-2004.
"One of the Finest Phono Preamps on the Market"
"The NAD PP2 phono preamp is one of the finest phono preamps on the market today. It's little price belies is big performance," raves the online review at About.com. "This is a steal."
"From the moment the stylus hits the groove, this phono stage impresses with its good behavior. There is no extraneous hiss or hum, just music," reports Michael Wong in the January 2004 issue of New Zealand's hi-fi magazine AudioEnz. "You get a smooth, powerful sound with a sense of ease that doesn't shout 'budget gear.'"
Bringing New Life to Old Vinyl
NAD knows that there are still many people who want to continue enjoying their cherished record collections. As anyone who reads audiophile media can attest, there is an increasing demand both for yesterday's LPs and a new breed of superbly pressed vinyl records of almost incredible quality.
NAD has not only kept high-quality phono sections in several of its products, but the company has also created The PP2. This simple add-on, outboard phono preamp allows anyone who has an electronic product with a spare pair of high-level inputs to achieve excellent vinyl performance.
In addition its MM Moving Magnet cartridge capability, the PP2 has a high gain MC Moving Coil cartridge input allowing proper matching to virtually any high quality turntable and cartridge combination. Other refinements include a grounding terminal post, plus gold plated input and output connections.
High Quality Design and Construction
The performance of the PP2's predecessor, the PP1, was already to a very high standard in the areas of noise, distortion, and RIAA equalization accuracy. But NAD has managed to improve these specifications still further by careful circuit layout and improved close tolerance parts.
Costly metal film resistors and film type capacitors are used exclusively in the signal path to give both measured improvement and a more refined and engaging listening experience. By increasing the power supply voltage from 15 volts to 24 volts, NAD improved overload margins and enhanced musical dynamics.
By staying with the original PP1 concept, and improving functionality and performance even further, NAD's engineering team has once again managed to give music lovers an even better product at a truly amazing price. |
