Super-Duper SuperZero Home Theater Package

Our "Super Surround" home theater package includes five NHT SuperZero 2.0 high-end mini-monitors and one NHT Super8 compact powered subwoofer, featuring big bass impact from a minuscule 11" cube.

NHT SuperZero 2.0 Mini-Monitor

NHT's new 2.0 version of the near-legendary SuperZero looks identical to the original overarchiever from the outside. But inside the compact cabinet, the new model uses a 4.5" long-throw pulp cone woofer and 1" silk dome tweeter in a sealed enclosure for a frequency response of 100 Hz to 22 kHz +/-3 dB, and 85 dB sensitivity.

In the January 1994 issue of Stereophile magazine, Corey Greenberg called the original SuperZero "a $250 speaker that compares with high-end speakers costing $3,000." The new NHT SuperZero 2.0 is a true-high end mini-monitor that builds on the merits of its predecessor and improves upon them.

"For these small speakers, big words are not inappropriate - excellent, superb, brilliant - although words like comforting, nourishing, and nonfatiguing might be nearer the mark," raves Mark Fleischmann, in his Home Theater magazine review for July 2011.

'Walk Around The Stage' Realism

Transparency, detail, and 'walk around the stage' realism are all there. At just 9" tall by 5" wide by 5.5" deep, the SuperZero 2.0 is really small. But unlike most small speakers, which try to fool you with boomy, pseudo-bass from a port, the Super Zero 2.0's acoustic suspension sealed enclosure skips the bass and focuses on making beautiful, lifelike midrange and high frequencies. Just like the original.

The price is so low for the performance you get, that NHT has "basically declared war on the entire affordable high-end loudspeaker establishment," according to Ian White in his October 13, 2010 review for BigPictureBigSound.com. "The new sound is super smooth and amazingly transparent." Pair the SuperZero 2.0 with a quality subwoofer, and you've got an amazing yet unobtrusive star for you home theater or hi-fi system.

Build quality is stunning, too. Because the compact, well-braced cabinet is naturally strong and stout, it doesn't have the to deal with the box vibrations that could interfere with critical midrange performance. The speaker's narrow front face is almost all speaker, so there's no wide baffle to interfere and interact with the output.

Better Than Its Predecessor

The SuperZero 2.0 is no mere re-make. It includes subtle improvements to the original SuperZero design. By adding a small coil of wire to the crossover, NHT made the tweeter roll off a bit faster (12 dB/oct), effectively blocking more of the bass that tries to sneak into the tweeter without negatively impacting its response. This small crossover change significantly lowers the tweeter's distortion and improves power handling. It sounds even better than the original.

The SuperZero 2.0 is finished in a beautiful black gloss laminate. Its grill is removable for those moments when you want to light candles and listen at the apex. The speaker can be easily wall or ceiling mounted using a Omnimount 10.0 bracket screwed into its 1/4"-20 threaded back panel insert. It also features real 5-way metal on metal binding posts that can accept bare wire, BFAs, spades, or banana plugs.

NHT Super8 Compact Powered Subwoofer

The NHT Super8 is the perfect subwoofer for use with any high quality compact speaker that's a bit shy in the deep bass. It's simply magical when used with the NHT Super Zero 2.0. Like all NHT subwoofers, the Super8 is great for both home theater and stereo music listening and delivers true high-end deep bass performance without a high price tag.

"Bass junkies are going to love the new Super 8 subwoofer," notes BigPictureBigSound.com for October 2010. "Not only does it extend the system's response below 40 Hz, but it makes everything sound so precise."

A good sub will help your amplifier out by handling the deep bass and letting your amp handle the less-power-intensive midrange and high frequencies. Properly adjusted, a good subwoofer will blend seamlessly with your main speakers to create a huge full-range sound without huge speakers. Oh yeah, and it will scare the hell out of you sometimes too!

The Super8 is exactly that kind of subwoofer. Mate it with your powered speakers in a PC hi-fi application and hear things from your computer music you never knew was there. Add it to a brace of Super Zero 2.0s in a music or theater system in your smaller living room and you'll be stunned at how it fools you into thinking all the sound is coming from those tiny speakers. Connect it to almost any system in a small-to-medium sized room, turn on the tunes, and prepare to have a smile on your face.

Small Footprint, Big Impact

The Super 8 powered subwoofer is a minuscule 11" cube - barely bigger than the 8" driver contained within. The size of the sonic impact on your system is more like a small dog house-sized cube! The Super 8 powered subwoofer comes beautifully wrapped in the signature NHT gloss black finish. The Super 8 is a sealed system. It has no holes or ports that can interact with its surroundings making it ok to put it wherever it fits in your space instead of the other way around. It comes with four cool aluminum tippy-toes to keep it from skidding around while it's doing its thing on your rug. For those with hardwood or other kinds of slippery floors or surfaces, it also include four rubber pads.

NHT employs the same technology and processing power in the Super 8 powered subwoofer that it use is in its best subwoofer, the B-12d. The list of features starts with a beefy, but efficient 300-watt amplifier throttled back to 110 ideal watts, a PWM amplifier design with dedicated switching power supply. This super efficient amplifier converts most of the energy coming out the wall socket to sound, not heat, so you can rock out and still be green.

Sophisticated DSP Engine

The real voodoo though is found in the Super8's dedicated DSP engine. The DSP controls all the equalization and low and high pass filter functions. It basically keeps the subwoofer between the lines and helps it do things it's not supposed to be able to do, like play super loud, go super deep and have super control. The DSP's built-in limiter and compressor even protect the woofer from killing itself when you go into party mode. The speaker itself is a heavy-duty, long-throw pulp-cone marvel that was custom designed by NHT specifically for the Super 8's closed box, acoustic suspension design.

Connectivity

Connections include everything you need and nothing you don't for your stereo or surround sound setup. The Super 8 has an LFE input for connection to your receiver's sub out and stereo line inputs for your fancy 2-channel rig. There are also speaker level inputs and a high-pass (bass removed) speaker level output for use with stereo rigs without a subwoofer output. A phase control is included to help integrate the Super8's output with your satellites, and a Unique Movie/Music EQ gets a little bit of extra output for those special occasions. There's even a USB connection for use with a future NHT wireless audio adaptor.

Since the Super 8 uses a super-efficient, universal power supply, it can deliver its full output anywhere in the world on a diet of 100v to 240v, no adaptors needed.

"For these small speakers, big words are not inappropriate - excellent, superb, brilliant - although words like comforting, nourishing, and nonfatiguing might be nearer the mark.

"Perhaps it would be more helpful to finish up with statements drawn from fact and listening. These speakers are cute. They cost next to nothing. They come from people with good ears who are drawing on decades of experience and know exactly what's easy to live with… Mate them with a low- to moderate-priced A/V receiver, and you'll have a deeply satisfying starter surround system."

- Mark Fleischmann, Home Theater magazine, July 2011

"The SuperZero 2.0 looks the same, but it isn't the same little honey that you remember from the first Clinton administration (there's a joke there somewhere, but we'll resist the urge). Version 2.0 offers higher power handling, lower distortion, improved detail, and better off-axis response. The 4.5" long-throw pulp cone woofer rolls off at 100Hz and you really do hear the difference with the revised crossover point between woofer and tweeter."

- Ian White, BigPictureBigSound.com, October 13, 2010
