"Product of the Year" 2008 - The Absolute Sound Magazine

No Compromise Home Theater Speaker Package

If you're looking for a no compromise multi-channel speaker system, look no further than our top flight PSB Imagine series speaker package.

The package includes two PSB Imagine T towers, one PSB Imagine C center channel speaker, two PSB Imagine S surround speakers, one PSB SubSeries 200 powered subwoofer, and FREE 100 feet of Kimber Kable KWIK-16 speaker cable (a $140 value).

PSB Imagine T Tower Speaker

The PSB Imagine T Loudspeaker is destined to become the standard of value among audio and home-theater fans for whom real-world sonic performance is the benchmark of excellence. Compound-curved cabinet design and outstanding sonic performance makes this speaker a real class leader.

"Entry-Level Loudspeaker of the Year"

The Absolute Sound magazine honored the PSB Imagine T with a "Product of the Year Award" as the Entry-Level Loudspeaker of the Year category in its January 2009 issue. "Tonally neutral and dynamically supercharged, the Imagine T's balance of audio virtues is classic PSB."

"PSB has surpassed its traditional high sonic standards at a price that bests even PSB's reputation for affordability," notes Neil Gader in his January 2009 review for The Absolute Sound magazine. "No wonder it was just named a TAS Product of the Year."

"A Wonderful Loudspeaker"

"The PSB Imagine T is a wonderful loudspeaker," says Kalman Rubinson in his June 2009 review for Stereophile. "Set a pair of them up right, feed them some good recordings, and they'll deliver a clarity and a balance worthy of any music... I can think of no speaker in the $2000/pair price range that I'd rate higher."

"Slick Design and Studio-Quality Sound"

"The Imagine speakers' slick design and studio-quality sound are sure to please..." reports Brent Butterworth in his December 2008 review of the Imagine series for Sound & Vision magazine. "I can't recall another speaker system of this size and configuration that I like so much."

"Every time I played a DVD or a Blu-ray disc, I got the feeling that this was how the disc was supposed to sound," marvels Butterworth in Sound & Vision magazine. "The Imagine speakers' superb tonal accuracy and nearly perfect speaker-to-speaker match made hyperactive surround-sound mixes seem especially realistic."

Impressive Drivers

The Imagine T boasts dual 5-1/4" clay/ceramic filled polypropylene cone with rubber surround and a 1" titanium dome tweeter with ferrofluid for outstanding full-frequency performance.

The dual-ported Imagine T is supplied with one port-cover per speaker, enabling a modest degree of system tuning to accommodate individual room acoustics, speaker setup or listener preference.

The PSB Imagine Series

The PSB Imagine models challenge expectations of just how an affordable high-end loudspeaker can look, and of the quality standards to which they can be crafted.

With the Imagine series, PSB has taken the hard-won knowledge and technical accomplishments it achieved in the rigorous and costly three-year development process of flagship PSB Synchrony line to create four models of refreshingly affordable speakers that reach remarkable heights of performance.

All New, Purpose-Driven Drivers

An all-new family of purpose-designed drivers results in clear midrange presence, uncluttered bass, extended smooth highs, and high power handling. All four Imagine models share a common driver family, with an all-new, very high-output 5.25-inch woofer, and an impressively wide-band and ultra-accurate, titanium-dome 1-inch tweeter inspired by the amazing performance of the Synchrony high-frequency unit.

Ceramic-filled Polypropylene Woofers

The PSB Imagine woofers incorporate injection-molded diaphragms of a proprietary, ceramic-filled polypropylene that delivers a unique union of stiffness, inherent internal damping, and amazingly low mass. A highly efficient motor system’s unique compound magnet structure in essence 'forces' the driver into delivering higher sensitivity at declining frequencies, effectively extending response at no penalty in size or system efficiency.

The woofer’s molded-polycarbonate basket contributes ideal stiffness and aerodynamics as well as complete magnetic indifference, while its bullet-shaped aluminum phase-plug (a frank borrowing from the Synchrony design portfolio) enhances linearity at higher frequencies and measurably lowers distortion.

Highly Linear, Remarkably Efficient Tweeter

The Imagine tweeter, also common to all models, exploits an advanced, highly linear, and remarkably efficient neodymium-magnet design (again, Synchrony-derived). It helps to extend output at both frequency extremes for effortless, airy top octaves and smooth, uncolored response through the critical crossover region coupled with high power handling.

Compound-Curved Cabinets

'Cathedral' matched wood veneers and timbre-matched designs ensure the best in looks and sonics. Imagine includes a new method of cabinet construction combining the precision of computer-controlled machining with the irreplaceable touch of hand craftsmanship.

Compound-curved on every vertical face and heavily braced internally, each Imagine enclosure is impressively solid and acoustically inert. Their precisely radiused, unbroken baffles - a full 1.5-inches thick - and flush, fastener-less driver mounts promote singularly smooth, ripple-free high-frequency response and carefully calculated horizontal dispersion.

Advanced Crossover

Like nearly every PSB Speaker design, the Imagine networks employ fourth-order acoustic Linkwitz-Reilly crossover topology. It combines discrete drivers into cohesive acoustic entities with minimal impact in either amplitude domain (frequency-response) or that of time (phase-response).

Select Components and Careful Layout

Select components and careful layout maximize signal transfer and keep static and dynamic distortions well below meaningful limits. Heavy, all-metal multiway binding posts on all Imagine models accept bare wire (up to 10-gauge), lugs, banana plugs, open and closed spades, and enable bi-wiring or bi-amplifying.

The Imagine T has a recommended power of 20-200 watts, frequency response of 38–23,000 Hz, 90 dB sensitivity, and measures 8-1⁄4" wide, 37-3/16" high, and 13-5⁄8" deep.

PSB Imagine C Center Channel Speaker

The PSB Imagine C center channel speaker is a definitive music reproducer, both in multi-channel hi-fi and movie soundtrack playback. It uses the same superior drivers as the Imagine T tower loudspeaker in a dual-woofer, horizontal layout. The Imagine C will astound you with how it handles itself in a multi-channel environment, reproducing every last nuance of sound out of your movies or music.

The Imagine C boasts dual 5-1/4" clay/ceramic filled polypropylene cone with rubber surround and a 1" titanium dome tweeter with ferrofluid for outstanding full-frequency performance.

The dual-ported Imagine C is supplied with one port-cover per speaker, enabling a modest degree of system tuning to accommodate individual room acoustics, speaker setup or listener preference.

The Imagine C has a recommended power of 20-150 watts, frequency response of 45–20,000 Hz, 90 dB sensitivity, and measures 20-1⁄2" wide, 7-1/2" high, and 13-5⁄8" deep.

PSB Imagine S Surround Channel Speaker

The PSB Imagine S surround speaker offers exceptionally high performance with its broad range of wiring and placement options. The patented Tri-mode Surround design allows for easy bipole or dipole wiring and placement. It also lets you use one pair of surrounds for 6.1 / 7.1 systems by wiring the forward firing baffles for the side surround channels and the rear firing baffles for the rear center surrounds.

The Imagine S boasts dual 5-1/4" clay/ceramic filled polypropylene cone with rubber surround and dual 1" titanium dome tweeters with ferrofluid for outstanding full-frequency performance.

The Imagine S has a recommended power of 20-150 watts, frequency response of 65–23,000 Hz, 89 dB sensitivity, and measures 10-3⁄4" wide, 12-5/8" high, and 6-7⁄8" deep.

PSB SubSeries 200 Powered Subwoofer

PSB's SubSeries 200 is an energy efficient subwoofer powered by a custom-designed NAD amplifier in a small-scale design. In addition to PSB's 'smart bass' limiting circuitry, the SubSeries 200 offers extensive musicality and high-powered bass impact.

The deceivingly compact design and trim cabinet provide equivalent SubSeries power in a small, highly developed package. The 'green' and powerful NAD 'Class D' discrete MOSFET amplifier uses less energy to produce more power reducing standby power to an industry low. Capable of 200 watts of continuous power and dynamic peaks of 560 watts, this is one potent sub!

The SubSeries 200 is a bass reflex design with 2-5/8" down-firing port. The 10" woven fiberglass cone driver has a rubber surround, 1.5" voice coil, and 35 oz. magnet. It has a variable 50 - 150 Hz crossover and a low pass filter.

PSB Subwoofers

All speakers play an important role in your home theater system but the performance of your subwoofer can greatly affect the overall performance of your system. Think of a subwoofer as a vital component to your system, adding excitement to your music or theater experience and understanding that not all subwoofers are created equal.

PSB places a particular emphasis on the overall musicality of its subwoofers. Distinct attention is given to their ability to seamlessly match the company's high quality speakers under the most demanding music and film score passages. Equally important is the subwoofer's ability to sustain powerful lower frequencies for extended periods of time.

Front panel controls include Volume and Crossover controls and a phase switch. There is also a LED power indicator. The rear panel has LFE Output and LFE Input, Left/Right Low Level Input from Preamp, Left/Right Low Level Output to Amp, Left/Right High Level Input from Receiver, IEC Power receptacle, ad an On/Off Power Switch.

Kimber Kable KWIK-16

Dual-gauge configuration KWIK-16 from Kimber Kable boasts a large-gauge conductor and a small-gauge conductor for each channel, for four spiraled conductors in all. This unique 16-awg strand design, along with Kimber Kable's special-recipe dielectric, adds up to one of the best sounding bulk cables for home theater and distributed sound you're ever likely to hear. The slippery PVC outer jacket pulls easily through walls.

"Product of the Year" 2008 - The Absolute Sound Magazine

The Absolute Sound magazine honored the PSB Imagine T with a "Product of the Year Award" as the Entry-Level Loudspeaker of the Year category in its January 2009 issue. "Tonally neutral and dynamically supercharged, the Imagine T's balance of audio virtues is classic PSB."

- The Absolute Sound, January 2009

"The PSB Imagine T is a wonderful loudspeaker. Set a pair of them up right, feed them some good recordings, and they'll deliver a clarity and a balance worthy of any music. I thoroughly enjoyed them with jazz, pop, and most classical. If you love any or all of these musics, I can think of no speaker in the $2000/pair price range that I'd rate higher."

- Kalman Rubinson, Stereophile, June 2009

"Hats off to the Imagine T's lower-midbass and upper-bass region. Even at the critical 150 Hz junction there are none of the frequency suckouts that cut music's dynamism off at the knees and cause frustrated listeners to keep applying volume to compensate for the lost energy."

"The Imagine T is extremely well-controlled for the output and extension it has on tap and probably at the top of its class in this category."

"PSB has surpassed its traditional high sonic standards at a price that bests even PSB's reputation for affordability. No wonder it was just named a TAS Product of the Year."

- Neil Gader, The Absolute Sound, January 2009

"The Imagine speakers' slick design and studio-quality sound are sure to please... I can't recall another speaker system of this size and configuration that I like so much."

"Every time I played a DVD or a Blu-ray disc, I got the feeling that this was how the disc was supposed to sound... The Imagine speakers' superb tonal accuracy and nearly perfect speaker-to-speaker match made hyperactive surround-sound mixes seem especially realistic."

"Getting good sound from the Imagine T tower speakers was as simple as plopping them in place about a foot and a half from the wall behind them and pointing them straight at my listening position."

- Brent Butterworth, Sound & Vision magazine, December 2008
