Highly Versatile MM/MC Phono Stage
Pro-Ject's designer Dr. Sykora has come up with a winning phono stage with the Phono Box DS. The dual mono design contributes superior channel separation and a nice soundstage. High-end SMD circuitry uses ultra low-noise ICs that bring out the best in your treasured vinyl. For exceptionally clean and quiet operation, all switching is done by relays – including a switchable subsonic filter that prevents your amplifier and speakers from picking up a low rumble below 20 Hz.
One great feature of the Phono Box DS is that it allows you to make set-up adjustments from the front panel display. There's no fussy fiddling around with mini dip-switches or jumpers. Variable impedance, capacitance, and gain settings make the Phono Box DS extremely versatile and compatible with almost any MM or MC phono cartridge.
Connections consist of one pair of RCA input jacks and one pair of RCA output jacks.

I bought this 8 months ago because I am so impressed with the Pro-Ject Phono Box RS that I have been using in my audio restoration rig, and I wanted a good, but less expensive, phono stage for my audition room. I had been using a Graham Slee, but it was MM only and its output was too hot for my tastes. The Box DS is an outstanding performer. It is quiet, dynamic, uncolored, and versatile. I think that it outperforms the Slee on all counts, plus I can use it with MC cartridges. I mostly use it with a Denon DL-103R moving coil or Otrofon Super OM cartridge, although I frequently audition other cartridges on this system as well. It is easy to configure for any cartridge Ive tested, and always sounds good. I think its a steal at this price.
