"This is an Impressive Turntable"

The Pro-Ject Perspex turntable is constructed using a visually stunning, clear acrylic plinth. Floating above the plinth is a sophisticated sub-chassis system made of resonance-free Corian and suspended by magnetic fields instead of springs or other physical supports that might transmit vibration.

This special SuperPack version of the Perspex also includes the critically acclaimed Sumiko Blue Point Special EVO III phono cartridge and Connect-it tonearm cable.

The resonance-optimized platter is special, too. It uses a sandwich construction incorporating a finely balanced 11.8"-diameter, 4.4-lb. platter bonded to a 4mm-thick flat-ground layer of vinyl for the playing surface. It comes with a threaded record clamp.

According to Stephen Mejias at Stereophile.com, "One of my favorite systems at CES 2011: A Pro-Ject Perspex turntable ($2000) featuring magnetic isolation to prevent acoustic feedback, a carbon fiber tonearm, and Sumiko Blackbird cartridge ($899)…"

"Five Stars" from What Hi-fi? Magazine

The Perspex won a top rating of Five Stars from England's What Hi-fi? magazine. "This is an impressive turntable. It has an authoritative sound underpinned by low frequencies that lack for nothing with weight and power."

New 9cc Evolution Tonearm

A new 9" tonearm, the 9cc Evolution, incorporates a conical carbon fiber arm tube with integrated headshell made of a single piece of carbon fiber and new ultra-rigid bearing assembly to give you the ability to use more massive and lower compliant moving coil cartridges.

The headshell and conical armtube are formed from a single piece of carbon fiber for maximum rigidity and resonance control. The armtube stills allows azimuth adjustments, despite the fixed headshell. The vertical tracking angle is also adjustable. Nominal speeds are 33-1/3 rpm and 45 rpm.

Details and Accessories

Chassis-mounted female RCA connectors on the rear panel allow you to use any single ended interconnect cables. The finish is transparent acrylic with black details. Included with the Perspex are a dust cover, a spirit level, a record clamp, and adjustable Sorbothane-damped aluminum cone feet.

SuperPack Option

For an even better value, the Perspex is also available in a special SuperPack that includes the critically acclaimed Sumiko Blue Point Special EVO III phono cartridge and Connect-it tonearm cable.

Sumiko Blue Point Special EVO III Phono Cartridge

As the evolution of the ever-popular Sumiko Blue Point Special, the EVO III raises the performance bar even higher at this highly competitive price point. Its tonal balance is remarkably smooth, exhibiting a fundamental richness and overall warmth without sacrificing musical detail and resolution. Soundstage focus and channel separation are exemplary, as is the cartridge's ability to maintain a coherent consistency that reproduces music as a perceptual whole.

"The EVO III provided a big helping of moving coil goodness, yet was refreshingly free of common moving coil quirks and foibles," reports the April 2004 issue of The Absolute Sound magazine. "Enthusiastically recommended."

The Blue Point Special's features include a high-output moving coil design with 2.5-mV output, a chemically coated aluminum cantilever with 0.3mm x 0.7mm elliptical stylus, and an ultra low-resonance open generator design. The resonance controlled mounting system provides the lowest mechanical impedance. The EVO III is highly compatible with most modern tonearms.

"Five Stars" from What Hi-fi? Magazine

The Perspex won a top rating of Five Stars from England's What Hi-fi? magazine. "This is an impressive turntable. It has an authoritative sound underpinned by low frequencies that lack for nothing with weight and power."

One of my favorite systems at CES 2011: A Pro-Ject Perspex turntable ($2000) featuring magnetic isolation to prevent acoustic feedback, a carbon fiber tonearm, and Sumiko Blackbird cartridge ($899), CD Box SE CD player ($799), Tune Box SE II MM/MC phono preamp ($749), Pre Box SE with four inputs ($499), Amp Box SE mono ($1098/pair), and matching Speaker Box 5 loudspeakers in high-gloss white ($399/pair). Speaker cable was Pro-Ject’s own, and a REL T5 subwoofer was supporting the low-end. Even at low volumes in a busy room, the music was marked by fine detail, clarity, and speed. Joe Pass sounded as remarkable and unignorable as ever."

- Stephen Mejias, Stereophile.com, January 8, 2011
