Updating the Power Plant Premier
The Power Plant Premier has been PS Audio's star product for the last four years, and even to this day it remains a stellar performer. Anyone that’s ever used a Power Plant knows the value of getting the power right in a hi-fi or home theater system.
The new PerfectWave P5 and P10 Power Plants retain all the must-have features of the Power Plant Premier, including providing perfectly regenerated AC power, while adding exciting new features like touch screen control with an oscilloscope function, Internet-based features, and extended voltage range. They also boast a new PerfectWave chassis design, which perfectly matches the chassis of the PerfectWave Networking DAC and PerfectWave Transport Memory Player.
Front Panel Touch Screen
The front panel touch screen is amazing. A touch of a finger allows you to tune your unit’s output voltage, switch individual zones on and off, and measure various functions, including the wattage being delivered and used, the THD, and the voltage in and out. But here’s a real kicker! PS Audio added an oscilloscope to the touch screen. Now, for the first time, you can actually see the incoming and outgoing waveforms. So not only can you measure the distortion on the line, but you can also see it. The effect is impressive, because the new PerfectWave Power Plants reduce distortion over ten times, and the difference between what’s coming in and what’s going out is amazing.
Extended Voltage Range
Both the P5 and P10 have what PS Audio likes to refer to as extended voltage range. This feature solves the over voltage problem that owners in some parts of the world have reported with the Power Plant Review. Sure, the PPP can protect your equipment, but in some cases, the PPP itself could fail or suffer a performance degradation when too large of a voltage swing occurred.
With the P5 and P10, however, PS Audio reports, "We can get crazy voltages without any penalties. For example, in places like Australia where the nominal voltage is 240 volts, we see swings up to 280! The Power Plant Premier couldn't handle such a big swing, but the new PerfectWave Premier series can, no sweat."
Internet Based Features
A number of cool Internet based features that give the new Power Plants 'green' characteristics and allow monitoring from a web page. Both the P5 and P10 connect to PS Audio's Globalnet servers and allow you to access them over the internet. Just go to your unit’s web page, schedule the PerfectWave Power Plant to turn equipment (or even itself) on or off according to any schedule you want, and everything is handled. |
