The Shanling CD80 II is a compact CD player built for the desktop or a narrow rack. At 28 x 20.5 x 5.2 cm, Shanling calls it its smallest fully equipped CD player.

Beyond discs, it plays music from a USB drive and from your phone over Bluetooth. It adds a balanced headphone amplifier, RCA outputs and a coaxial digital output. The aluminum chassis comes in Silver or Black.

Tray-Loading CD Drive

The CD80 II uses the same 4th-generation CD system as Shanling's CD-S100 (25). It pairs an HD850 laser with a tray-style mechanism. It plays CD, CD-R and CD-RW audio discs.

Cirrus Logic DAC and Dual Headphone Amps

A Cirrus Logic CS43198 DAC handles conversion, with Panasonic FC capacitors in the audio circuit. Two SGM8262 amplifiers power the headphone outputs. The 4.4mm balanced jack delivers 850mW and the 3.5mm jack 215mW, both into 32 ohms.

USB Drive and Bluetooth Playback

The front USB port reads drives up to 2TB, with files up to PCM 384kHz/32-bit and DSD256. Bluetooth 5.0 receives music from your phone using LDAC, AAC or SBC. Shanling's Eddict Player app lets you browse a connected USB drive from your phone.

How the CD80 II Fits Your System

The RCA output works in Line-Out mode for an integrated amplifier or receiver. It also has a Pre-Out mode, so you can connect it directly to powered speakers. The coaxial output sends up to 24-bit/192kHz to an external DAC.

What it will not do: it does not play SACDs, and it has no optical or coaxial digital inputs. It has no Wi-Fi or network streaming. The coaxial output does not pass DSD.
