Digital Audio
Whether your music lives on a streaming service, a hard drive or a shelf of CDs, the right digital gear turns those ones and zeros into sound that feels real. Shop DACs, CD players, streamers, wireless players and network accessories, all hand-picked by the hi-fi specialists at Audio Advisor.
Five ways to upgrade the digital side of your system.
Not Sure Where to Start?
Start with how you listen now. Here's where most people find their biggest upgrade.
"I stream from my phone or computer."
A music streamer gives your system its own dedicated source. Pair it with a DAC for an even bigger step up.
"I still love my CDs."
Pick a CD player for a simple one-box setup, or a transport if you already own a DAC you want to use.
"I want music in more rooms."
Wireless music players connect to your home Wi-Fi and add streaming to any amp, powered speaker or second system.
"My streaming system is set. What's next?"
Look at the network feeding it. Network switches and adapters are a popular next step for dedicated streaming setups.
Digital Audio, Explained
What does a DAC do?
Digital music is stored as data. A DAC (digital to analog converter) turns that data into the analog signal your amplifier and speakers or headphones can play.
CD player vs. CD transport
A CD player reads the disc and converts it to analog with its own built-in DAC. A transport only reads the disc and sends the digital signal to an external DAC.
Streamer vs. wireless player
Both play music from the internet and your network. Music streamers are typically built as full-size hi-fi components; wireless music players focus on easy setup and whole-home listening.
Sample rate and bit depth
These numbers describe how much detail a digital file holds. CDs are 16-bit / 44.1kHz. "Hi-res" files go higher. Check that your DAC or streamer supports the formats you play.
Wired or wireless network?
Most streamers work over Wi-Fi, but many listeners prefer a wired Ethernet connection for reliability. Network switches and adapters help you set that up.
Digital Audio FAQs
Do I need a DAC if my streamer or CD player already has one?

Not necessarily. Many listeners add an external DAC later as an upgrade path, connecting their existing source's digital output to the new DAC. Our team can tell you whether your current gear has a digital output to use.
Can I add streaming to my existing stereo?
