The Concorde Music Black LVB 250 Stylus — The Same Shibata, on Boron
Ortofon's flagship replacement stylus for the Concorde Music range, sold singly. The diamond is a nude Shibata at 6/50 µm — the same grind as the Black — mounted on a boron cantilever rather than aluminum.
That one substitution is the whole product. Everything the diamond reads has to travel up the cantilever to the generator, and boron is stiffer and lighter than aluminum, so less of the signal is lost or added on the way.
Fit, Profile and Compatibility
Which Bodies It Belongs On
Ortofon's Concorde Music styli are replacements for all Concorde Music cartridge models, and this one shares that mount. It is the matched part for the Black LVB 250 and it will fit any other Concorde Music body you own.
Because the range uses a single mount, this is also the top of the ladder for someone who bought in at the bottom. Whatever Concorde Music body is on your arm, this stylus is a purchase you can make without changing anything else.
The Numbers That Matter at Setup
Ortofon publishes 26 dB of channel separation, 1 dB channel balance and a response of 20 Hz – 20 kHz within +2/0 dB — figures shared with the Black. The cantilever material is where the two part company.
Tracking force is 1.8 g and the complete cartridge weighs 18 g. Boron is stiff but brittle, so handle the assembly by its housing and keep the stylus guard on whenever the cartridge is off the platter.
Who Is the Black LVB 250 Stylus Best For?
- Your Black LVB 250 is worn — the generator is unaffected by tip wear and carries on
- You own any other Concorde Music body — one mount across the range, so this is the top rung from wherever you are
- You want a boron cantilever — stiffer and lighter than aluminum, carrying the same 6/50 µm Shibata
- You handle equipment carefully — boron rewards it, and the guard should go back on every time
- Your cartridge is a Concorde MkII or MkI — each of those ranges takes its own styli, so this is not the matched part; the right ones are in replacement styli
How Do You Fit It?
Nothing about a Concorde needs setting up. The body is the headshell, and the geometry came from the factory that way. Hold the assembly by its housing rather than the cantilever, draw the old one off the front, press this one on until it seats, and set tracking force to 1.8 g.
Pairs Well With
What most Concorde Music owners shop alongside.
- Stylus force gauges — how you set the 1.8 g this one asks for
- Stylus cleaning — what decides how long the new tip lasts
- Record cleaning solutions — a clean record is the cheapest stylus insurance there is
- Record brushes — a pass before each side keeps grit out of the groove
Frequently Asked Questions
Will it fit my cartridge?
Ortofon's Concorde Music styli replace on all Concorde Music models, so any body in the range takes it. Concorde MkII and Concorde MkI are separate families with their own styli.
What does the boron cantilever do?
It carries the same Shibata diamond on a stiffer, lighter tube. The published electrical figures match the Black, so the difference lies in how faithfully movement reaches the generator rather than in the specification sheet.
Does it need different setup from the Black?
Tracking force is the same 1.8 g and the geometry is fixed by the Concorde housing. Handling is the difference — boron is brittle, so use the guard and hold the housing, never the tube.
How long does a stylus last?
Around 1,000 hours is the usual figure, though it turns on how clean your records are and how accurately the cartridge is set up. A worn tip damages records, so replace it on schedule rather than by ear.
