REL Bassline Blue Is the Cable REL Designed for Its Own Subwoofers
REL Acoustics designed Bassline Blue for its own subwoofers. It is built from slow-drawn, high-purity copper, hand-constructed at REL's California facility, and soldered with pure silver. A Swiss-made Neutrik SpeakOn plug goes into the REL, and gold-coated spade lugs go to your amplifier.
A REL subwoofer can connect to your system two ways: with an RCA subwoofer cable, or directly to your amplifier's speaker terminals with a specially designed cable like this one. The speaker-terminal connection lets you use a REL with virtually any home theater receiver.
Other length & termination options are available. Call us to discuss your needs.
Natural Drawn Copper
REL says the copper is slow-drawn in a nitrogen bath to minimize impurities on the surface of the wire. Each conductor is coated in a Teflon film immediately after leaving the extrusion die, so impurities cannot settle on it. REL calls the result Natural Drawn wire.
Hand-Built With Pure Silver Solder
REL builds Bassline Blue by hand in California, using cable made to REL's specification by a North American wire and cable house. The work is labor intensive and can take up to one hour per cable. REL uses pure silver solder for every connection.
The SpeakOn Plug
REL says its Swiss-made Neutrik SpeakOn connector has proven reliable, neutral and mechanically ideal for REL's High Level Input circuitry, across over 100,000 REL subwoofers worldwide. The amplifier end uses high-quality spade lugs coated in gold to minimize oxidation. If your amplifier needs bare wire, you can re-terminate the individual leads.
Who Is This Subwoofer Cable Best For?
- You own a REL subwoofer — Bassline Blue is the cable REL's own engineers designed for it
- Your receiver has only speaker terminals — the speaker-terminal connection works with virtually any home theater receiver
- You want a hand-built cable — REL builds each one by hand, using pure silver solder
How Does It Connect to Your System?
Plug the SpeakOn end into the matching input on your REL subwoofer. Connect the spade lugs to your amplifier's speaker terminals, following your REL manual for which lead goes where. Turn the amplifier off before you connect or disconnect anything.
Measure the Path, Then Add a Little Slack
Measure the route the cable will really take from your electronics to your subwoofer, around furniture and along the baseboard. Then add a little slack. As audio legend George Cardas puts it, "A cable that's just long enough usually turns out to be just not long enough."
A Long Run to the Subwoofer?
Subwoofers often sit far from the electronics. If yours does, we recommend a long interconnect rather than a long speaker cable. A really long interconnect affects system performance less than a really long speaker cable.
When Is It Time to Upgrade?
A subwoofer cable often stays in a system for years, so it is easy to overlook. Look again when something else changes: a new subwoofer, a new receiver or preamp, or a move to a bigger room.
Pairs Well With
A subwoofer cable joins your electronics to your subwoofer. These are the categories on either end of it.
- Subwoofers — the other end of the cable
- Preamplifiers — a source of subwoofer output in a stereo system
- Home Theater Receivers — the usual place the subwoofer output lives
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I use an RCA cable with my REL instead?
Yes. A REL subwoofer can also use a standard RCA subwoofer cable. Bassline Blue is the way to connect it directly to your amplifier's speaker terminals.
Will it work with my home theater receiver?
The speaker-terminal connection lets you connect a REL subwoofer to virtually any home theater receiver.
