A Class A Tube Buffer for Line-Level Sources
The Musical Fidelity X-Tube connects between a line-level source and an amplifier or preamplifier, presenting the source with an easy-to-drive 470k-ohm input and feeding the next component from a low-impedance output. This buffering can be especially useful when a source has a modest analog output stage or must drive a difficult input or cable load.
Two 6922/E88CC Triodes
Two 6922/E88CC tubes operate in a pure Class A circuit. The X-Tube adds approximately 1 dB of gain while maintaining a wide 20 Hz–80 kHz response, less than 0.003% specified distortion, and greater than 96 dB unweighted signal-to-noise ratio. A front-panel bypass function makes it easy to compare the buffered and direct signal paths.
Simple RCA Integration
Connect one stereo RCA source to the input, then connect the X-Tube output to an available stereo RCA input on the amplifier or preamplifier. A separate RCA bypass output is also provided. The unit is single-ended only; it does not provide balanced XLR connections. Its compact aluminum chassis contains the power supply and accepts 100–230V AC through a standard IEC inlet.
