The Compact Sandwich

The Sandwich 100 is the smallest speaker in LEAK's revived Sandwich range, launched in April 2026. A 5.75-inch mid-bass driver with an aluminum-skinned foam-core cone sits below a 1.2-inch coated textile dome tweeter. The cabinet is 13.4 inches tall, and the speakers are sold as a pair.

LEAK introduced the original Sandwich in 1961. Its cone bonded two aluminum skins to a foam core, an idea borrowed from aircraft construction. The Sandwich 100 cone uses a Rohacell structural foam core bonded to aluminum skins with aerospace adhesives.

Why a Stiff Cone Matters

A cone that flexes adds distortion. LEAK says the Sandwich cone stays rigid and light, so it moves as one piece with low distortion. The 30 mm tweeter is larger than most at this size, which lets LEAK cross over lower, at 2.2 kHz.

The Numbers, and What They Ask of You

LEAK quotes 49 Hz to 20 kHz within 3 dB, with bass extension to 44 Hz at minus 6 dB. Sensitivity is 86 dB and impedance is 6 ohms nominal with a 4.8 ohm minimum. LEAK recommends 25 to 100 watts, and peak output is rated at 102 dB.

How Much Room It Takes

Each cabinet is 8.3 inches wide, 13.4 tall and 10.6 deep with terminals, and weighs 17.3 pounds. The sides and top are walnut with aluminum trim. Unlike its larger siblings, the front baffle is soft-touch black. A removable cloth grille and rubber feet are included.

The crossover uses polypropylene capacitors, air-core inductors and low-loss resistors. The cabinet is braced and damped inside, with a rear bass-reflex port. The designer is Peter Comeau, who also leads acoustic design for Wharfedale and Mission.

How Do They Connect to Your System?

Speaker cable runs from your amplifier to the binding posts on each cabinet, red to red and black to black. Leave the terminal links in place for a normal single run. These are passive speakers, so there is nothing else to power.

Put them on stands or a shelf with the tweeter near ear height and some space behind the rear port. LEAK says the grille is part of the speaker's voicing, so listen with it on first.

Do I need a subwoofer?

For music at normal levels, no. The 100 reaches 44 Hz. For film or for bass-heavy music at volume, a small subwoofer takes the strain off the 5.75-inch driver.
