The Marantz Circuit at the Bottom of the Range
The CD6007 is where Marantz's house engineering starts. It carries the same discrete output modules the company puts in players costing several times more, in a slim chassis built for a normal shelf.
Those modules are the point. An HDAM handles the low-pass filter and an HDAM SA2 buffers the output, replacing the op-amps most players use at this level. Marantz builds them rather than buying them in.
Conversion is a multi-bit Delta-Sigma design. Distortion measures 0.002%, signal-to-noise reaches 110dB and dynamic range 100dB, with frequency response running from 2Hz to 20kHz. Those are solid figures for a player of this size and price, and they hold across the range.
A USB Port and a Real Headphone Output
The front USB-A port plays WAV, FLAC, ALAC, AIFF and DSD files as well as MP3, AAC and WMA. A drive full of music becomes a source without adding a box or an account to the system.
The headphone output runs through an HDAM-SA2 buffer with its own volume control and three gain settings. That is unusual at this price, where a headphone jack is normally wired straight off the line stage.
Gold-plated analog RCA outputs sit at the back with coaxial and optical digital outputs beside them. The case is 17.3 inches wide, 13.3 deep and 4.1 tall, and weighs 14.3 pounds.
Who Is This CD Player Best For?
- You want Marantz engineering at the entry price — HDAM and HDAM SA2 discrete modules are the same family used further up the range, so the character carries down rather than being approximated.
- You listen on headphones — a buffered output with its own volume and three gain settings means a proper pair works here, not just earbuds.
- You have files as well as discs — the front USB port plays FLAC, ALAC, AIFF, WAV and DSD from a drive, all through the player's own converter.
- Your shelf is shallow — a slimline chassis at 4.1 inches tall fits where a full-size player will not, without giving up the output stage.
- You may add a converter later — coaxial and optical digital outputs are both fitted, so the CD6007 becomes a transport whenever you want. See our digital-to-analog converters.
How Does It Connect to Your System?
Run the gold-plated RCA outputs to a line input on your amplifier. The converter and the HDAM output stage inside do the work from there.
If you own a DAC, take coaxial or optical to it instead. Headphones plug into the front, and a USB drive goes in beside them.

Frequently Asked Questions
What are HDAM modules?
Marantz's own discrete circuit blocks, built in place of standard op-amps. The CD6007 uses an HDAM for filtering and an HDAM SA2 to buffer the output.
What can the USB port play?
WAV, FLAC, ALAC, AIFF and DSD files, plus MP3, AAC and WMA, from a drive in the front-panel socket.
What does it measure?
0.002% distortion, 110dB signal-to-noise, 100dB dynamic range, and 2Hz to 20kHz frequency response.
Is the headphone output any good?
It runs through an HDAM-SA2 buffer with its own volume control and three gain settings, rather than being taken straight off the line stage.
What outputs does it have?
Gold-plated analog RCA, plus coaxial and optical digital outputs for an external converter.
How big is it, and what is the warranty?
17.3 by 13.3 by 4.1 inches and 14.3 pounds. Three years on parts and labor for the original purchaser, when bought new from an authorized dealer. It does not transfer if the unit is sold on.
