A Stereo Amplifier That Can Become 4.1

The C 700 V2 is a BluOS streaming amplifier with an unusual trick. Its HDMI eARC input accepts Dolby Digital. From there it can send audio wirelessly to rear speakers and to a subwoofer. Very few stereo amplifiers can do that at all.

The amplifier itself is NAD's HybridDigital UcD platform, rated above 80 watts per channel into 8 ohms and 100 watts into 4 ohms. IHF dynamic power reaches 100 watts into 8 ohms and 125 into 4. NAD has used this platform for many years now.

The Second Line Input Became a Phono Stage

Version two makes a deliberate trade. Where the original C 700 had two RCA line inputs, this one keeps a single line input and turns the other into a moving-magnet phono stage for a turntable.

The rest is generous. Digital inputs, HDMI eARC, a USB Type-A port for storage, a subwoofer output, Gigabit Ethernet, and two-way aptX HD Bluetooth that sends audio out to wireless headphones as readily as it receives.

What Changed Around the BluOS Module

BluOS is unchanged and still excellent, handling hi-res playback to 24-bit/192kHz with MQA decoding and multi-room across a whole house. What NAD reworked for version two is everything surrounding it.

The measurements are quiet for a compact chassis. Distortion stays below 0.04% from a quarter watt to 90 watts. Channel separation exceeds 93dB at 1kHz, and frequency response holds within 0.18dB from 20Hz to 20kHz.

Where Dirac Fits In

Dirac Live room correction is supported, though the license and measurement microphone are sold separately rather than included. If your room is difficult, that upgrade path is there when you want it.

A five-inch color display shows album artwork, and signal-to-noise measures better than 84dB A-weighted with a damping factor above 90. The chassis is 218 by 96 by 266mm and weighs 4.8kg. That is 10.6 pounds, small enough to sit on a desk.

Ed Selley reviewed the C 700 V2 for AVForums on December 23, 2024, scoring it 10 out of 10 and calling it "an easy Best in Class." He wrote that it "takes everything that the original C 700 did so well, loses none of that brilliance" and polishes the rest.

Dennis Burger reviewed it for SoundStage! Access on July 1, 2025. He concluded that "there's a lot to love about the C 700 V2," and singled out how NAD manages to offer "so many meaningfully different experiences" across its range.

Both landed on the same reservation, and it is worth knowing. Selley found the "Phono stage gain is smidge low" and the remote "isn't as useful as you think it is." If vinyl is your main source, plan on a hotter cartridge or an outboard stage.
