0.01-Gram Accuracy to 5 Grams, With a Calibration Weight in the Box
The Revolv Stylus Gauge is a compact digital scale for setting cartridge tracking force. It reads to 0.01 grams with a capacity of 5 grams, on a backlit LED display, and it ships with a 5-gram calibration weight so you can prove the reading rather than trust it.
Tracking force is the setting that drifts on its own. Counterweights creep, suspensions settle, and a cartridge set correctly two years ago may be a tenth of a gram out today — enough to cost tracking on inner grooves and to wear the stylus unevenly.
Accuracy, Range and Fit
What It Reads and How Far
The Revolv measures to 0.01 grams with a 5-gram capacity, which covers every mainstream cartridge with headroom to spare. The backlit LED display is legible at platter height, where a small unlit LCD usually is not.
A 5-gram calibration weight is included. That matters on a digital scale: a gauge you can check against a known mass is a gauge you can trust years later, and one you cannot check is only as good as the day you bought it.
It is small enough to keep beside the deck, and it comes with a slide-off cover and a leatherette case, so the pad stays clean between uses. Set it on the platter, rest the stylus on the pad, and read.
Who Is the Revolv Stylus Gauge Best For?
- You set your own tracking force — 0.01 grams is fine enough to hit the middle of a cartridge's recommended range
- You want to verify the gauge itself — the 5-gram calibration weight is in the box, which is unusual at this price
- You read in dim light — the display is backlit, which a gauge used at platter level needs
- You change cartridges — every swap needs the force reset, and guessing is how styli get worn
- You are looking for a complete setup kit — this measures force only; overhang and offset need a protractor from cartridge alignment tools
How Do You Use It?
Set the gauge on the platter and switch it on. Check it against the supplied 5-gram weight if it has been a while. Lower the stylus onto the pad and let the reading settle, then adjust the counterweight, lift and lower again, and repeat until the figure matches what your cartridge maker specifies. Take a second reading to confirm.
Pairs Well With
What most owners of a force gauge shop next.
- Cartridge alignment tools — force is one setting; a protractor covers the geometry
- Phono cartridges — a gauge turns a cartridge swap into a five-minute job
- Test records — for checking the result of what you have just set
- Stylus cleaning — the other job that changes how a cartridge tracks
Frequently Asked Questions
How accurate is it?
It reads to 0.01 grams. The included 5-gram calibration weight lets you confirm that accuracy at any time, which is the part most budget gauges leave out.
What range does it cover?
Up to 5 grams, which is beyond what any mainstream cartridge tracks at. Check your cartridge maker's recommended figure and set to the middle of the range.
Does it need batteries?
Yes. It is a digital scale with a backlit display, so it runs on batteries rather than a balance beam.
Does it measure anything else?
Tracking force only. Overhang, offset angle and azimuth are geometry rather than force, and they are set with a protractor.
