The Stereo 100 is the amplifier Rogue built to be kept. Ninety watts per channel of pure tube power, four matched KT88 output tubes in push-pull, and a fully regulated high-voltage supply behind them.

A switch on the rear changes its character. Ultralinear gives you slam and grip. Pure triode gives you the smoothness tubes are bought for. Most owners settle on one in the end. But you make that choice after the amp is in your room, not before you buy it.

You also pick the output tap, 4 ohm or 8. Matching the transformer to your speakers is the difference between a tube amp that drives them and one that merely connects to them.

Inside the Chassis

The supply is the part you never see. It is a massive fully regulated high-voltage design, and it keeps the bass from collapsing when the music turns demanding. That collapse is the usual failure of tube amps this size.

A bias meter is built in, so checking and setting tube bias is a two-minute job you do at home instead of a trip to a dealer. The tube cage is integral, and the transformers are mechanically isolated from the chassis.

Bandwidth runs 5Hz to 50kHz within 1dB. Input impedance is 200k ohms and sensitivity 1.0V RMS, with THD under 0.1% typical. Inside are Mundorf EVO Oil coupling caps and custom-wound output transformers on a heavy copper board. It is 18 inches wide, 17 deep, 7 high, and weighs 60 pounds.

How Does It Connect to Your System?

Connect your preamplifier to the gold-plated RCA inputs. Speakers go to the gold-plated binding posts, on the 4 or 8 ohm taps depending on what your speakers present.

Choose triode or ultralinear on the rear switch, then let the slow-start sequence bring the tubes up. Check bias on the built-in meter occasionally and the amplifier will look after itself between times.

It is straightforward, and you will not need a dealer. A bias meter is built into the amplifier, so checking and adjusting takes a couple of minutes.
