Audio Performance
Low-Noise Volume Control — The Burr-Brown analog resistor ladder volume control eliminates mechanical contacts from the signal path. This means quieter operation, tighter left-right channel matching, and more precise volume steps from 0 to 99. You can also program a default turn-on volume and save a "favorite" level accessible from the remote.
High-Resolution DAC — The ESS Sabre32 Reference DAC (ES9018K2M) converts digital audio into analog with very low distortion. It supports PCM up to 384 kHz/32-bit and native DSD256 through USB, and PCM up to 192 kHz/24-bit through coaxial or optical inputs. In everyday terms, it can handle any streaming service, hi-res download, or CD-quality source you throw at it.
Versatile Phono Stage — The built-in phono preamp supports moving magnet (MM), moving coil (MC), and moving iron (MI) cartridges. A three-position switch on the rear panel lets you choose MM (47kΩ), MC at 100Ω (ideal for most moving coil cartridges), or MC at 47kΩ (recommended by Soundsmith and Grado for their moving iron designs). The P6's phono stage gained extra sensitivity over the older P5, making it compatible with even low-output MC cartridges.
High-Current Headphone Amplifier — Built around the Texas Instruments TPA6120A chipset, this headphone output can drive headphones rated up to 600 ohms. It uses a current-feedback design with a very fast response time, which helps reduce listening fatigue during long sessions. The headphone jack is a 3.5mm (1/8") stereo mini plug on the front panel.
Connectivity
Analog Inputs: Five pairs of RCA line-level inputs, one pair of balanced XLR inputs, one phono input (RCA with ground terminal), one front-panel 3.5mm auxiliary input with +12 dB gain boost, and dedicated Home Theater Bypass inputs (left, right, and sub).
Digital Inputs: One USB-B (asynchronous USB 2.0, plug-and-play with Windows and Mac), two optical (Toslink), one coaxial (S/PDIF).
Outputs: Balanced XLR and unbalanced RCA main preamp outputs; one balanced XLR and two unbalanced RCA subwoofer outputs; 3.5mm headphone jack; 12V trigger output; IR input and loop output.
Bass Management
Built-In Crossovers — Independent high-pass and low-pass crossovers with adjustable frequency and a 12 dB/octave slope let you blend a subwoofer with your main speakers. There's a front-panel sub level control for easy adjustment. If you're not using a subwoofer, simply set the high-pass crossover to "Off" and your speakers run full range.
Design & Build
Premium Construction — The P6 features a solid steel chassis, sand-blasted aluminum end caps, subtle gold highlights, and a ball-bearing-supported solid aluminum volume knob. Available in black or silver finish. Fits a standard 19" equipment rack at 2U height (with optional HRA-2 rack-mount kit).
Backlit Remote Control — A full-featured remote with discrete source buttons, volume, mute, bass/treble bypass, dim, and favorite-volume recall. Backlighting makes it easy to use in a darkened listening room.
