A Hybrid Amplifier, Shrunk to Fit a Shelf

An oversize toroidal transformer feeds the output stage, which is a lot of power supply for a case this small. The payoff is 25 watts per channel into 8 ohms, rising to 35 watts per channel into 4 ohms.

The bench numbers are tidy for the money. Distortion stays under 0.1% at 1kHz, and signal-to-noise is better than 72dB. Response runs from 20Hz to 20kHz within half a decibel. Input impedance is 47 kilohms, so any line-level source drives it easily.

One Cable From the TV to Real Hi-Fi

A converter is built in, with an optical input and a coaxial input. Either one turns a digital feed back into sound your speakers can use, so a TV or a CD transport plugs straight in with no outboard box.

Two 3.5mm control jacks let the SV-200 wake and sleep along with the rest of a system. A remote comes in the box. Everything you need for a desk or a small room is here, and none of it takes a second shelf.
