Recommended Component 2024 – Stereophile
"Powerful Right from the Start"
The new, appropriately named Silver Apex is the top silver cable from the sonic wizards at Analysis Plus. These interconnects maintain the high frequency components of your audio source and truly have to be heard to be believed.
Silver Apex is constructed using pure silver over a stabilizing strand of oxygen-free copper. The conductor is woven into a special version of the patented Analysis Plus hollow oval geometry.
"Recommended Component" Honors
Stereophile honored the Silver Apex by awarding it the magazine's coveted Recommend Component status for 2024.
According to Stereophile, "The Analysis Plus Silver Apex uses as its conductor an oxygen-free copper 'stabilizing strand' covered with pure silver, in an arrangement the manufacturer describes, somewhat elliptically (haw) as 'a hollow oval cable inside a hollow oval cable inside a hollow oval cable,' said to be double shielded and thus quiet. And MF found it to be so: In his words, the Silver Apex is 'highly recommended!'"
According to Roger Kanno in his soundstagehifi.com review for July 15, 2018, "The sound of the new Silver Apex was bracing and powerful right from the start, while remaining relaxed and highly refined. There were noticeable improvements in nearly every aspect of my system’s performance."
Award-Winning Performance
Silver Apex earned Recommended status from thesoundadvocate.com. According to Howard Milstein, "I can incontrovertibly say that these cables brought forth some considerable improvements when applied in context with the particular system components I used them with."
"You could spend much more on cables from some other manufacturers, but in my opinion, The Analysis Plus’s Silver Apexes provided a sumptuous sound quality and are definitely RECOMMENDED!"
"One of the Most Open and Natural"
"Not inexpensive but still well within the bounds of high-end sanity, Silver Apex projected one of the most open and natural voices I’ve heard in a cable," observes Neil Gader, thesabsolutesound.com, March 25, 2020.
"It’s deliciously easy to listen to, as it just seems to step out of the signal’s path, clearing the way for a musical performance to commence. Yes, Silver Apex was a loudspeaker cable that made me want to shout, but for all the right reasons—a flagship-level cable that can stand its ground with the best of the best."
A Hollow Oval Inside a Hollow Oval
Silver Apex uses the most advanced design yet from Analysis Plus, whose cables are universally acclaimed for their patented, groundbreaking Hollow Oval conductor geometry. Silver Apex goes a significant step further by using a Hollow Oval conductor inside a Hollow Oval conductor inside a Hollow Oval conductor!
The result is a double-shielded design, resulting in a noise floor so low you can hear your amp breath. It’s a significant upgrade to standard cable design, creating a true reference cable suitable for the finest AV gear.
"Raises the Bar at This Price Point"
"The Silver Apex is a continuation of the oval hollow core geometry, yet it has a cache of advancements that raises the bar of what can be expected from this price point," reports John Hoffman, positive-feedback.com, September 1, 2018.
"For hobbyists who have assembled a high-performance audio system, I would put these Analysis Plus Silver Apex cables on a short list to audition. This cable is going to take up permanent residence in my reference system, as I value the neutrality and refinement they bring to the table."
Patented Hollow Oval Design
The majority of cables on the market employ round diameter cables as conductors. Unfortunately, cylindrical cable designs have a number of serious drawbacks, including current bunching, skin effect phenomenon, and frequency effects that lower the performance of the cable.
After many computer simulations and other exhaustive tests, the engineers at Analysis Plus determined that a hollow oval cable constituted the best possible conductor design. The primary advantage of an oval conductor design rather than cylindrical conductor geometry is that the oval shape allows more of the return current to be closer to the outgoing current, thus reducing the negative effects associated with excessive current bunching.
Since the center part of the conductor is not used at high frequencies, Analysis Plus simply eliminates it. Using a hollow conductor helps minimize the change in resistance with frequency and the cable becomes more efficient.
Analysis Plus Silver Apex is available with non-locking RCA connectors or Abbatron XLR connectors.
"Competitive with Cables Five Times the Price"
"These cables are competitive with cables costing five times their price. I understand why they are termed budget or value cables, but I think that undersells their qualities," reports owner jlaz, forum.audiogon.com.
"These cables are quiet and reveal details that I had not heard before. I also believe that they reveal what is on the disc or record. Snare drums sound real... and the instruments are highly defined, realistic, and musical... clarity exists but the music shines through. I also think they realistically present the event."
