What You Need to Know
What Is the PlayStream A7?
The Advance Paris PlayStream A7 is a streaming integrated amplifier — a component that combines a network music player, a power amplifier, and a control hub in one box. You add speakers and you have a complete, connected hi-fi system. It streams directly from Spotify, Qobuz, Tidal, Deezer, Amazon Music, TuneIn, iHeartRadio, vTuner, and Napster via Ethernet or Wi-Fi. It also connects to your local music library on a NAS drive, computer, or smartphone. FM and DAB+ tuners are built in as well.
The amplifier section delivers 115 watts per channel into 8 ohms in Class A/B. With the Hi-Bias switch engaged, it operates in Class A for the first watt before transitioning to Class A/B — the same mode found on the X-i75 and A10 Classic. Advance Paris notes this delivers “sound comparable to class A on the first watt.”
Connectivity — Everything in One Place
The PlayStream A7’s input list is extensive. Six analog inputs include a configurable phono stage for a turntable (MM cartridge). Digital inputs include one coaxial and three optical S/PDIF connections plus an HDMI ARC input — so your television connects with one cable, and the A7 can respond to your TV’s volume commands. A USB input and the Ethernet/Wi-Fi network connection round out digital connectivity. An optional X-FTB01 or X-FTB02 Bluetooth module adds wireless input via the proprietary expansion port.
What Do Reviewers Say?
SoundStage Simplifi reviewed the PlayStream A7 extensively in June 2025, describing it as “a gorgeous thing” with “a personality all its own.” The reviewer connected it via Ethernet and praised the setup experience as “so straightforward and painless” via the Advance PlayStream app. Power was assessed as capable of driving virtually any speaker within reason. The reviewer acknowledged the ergonomics as “a bit idiosyncratic” but found the A7 “utterly charming” and praised its distinctive visual character — the VU meters, the serif-font display — as rare in modern connected components. One noted limitation: the streaming app was described as occasionally failing to find the amp. The reviewer compared it favorably to the Rotel S14 in overall capability despite a similar price point. — SoundStage Simplifi, June 2025
StereoNET reviewed the PlayStream A7 and described the sound as “open, transparent, and musically articulate” with “impressive midrange purity and clean but solid bass.” The Spotify and Apple Music streaming performance was assessed as “more than adequate,” with the reviewer noting Bluetooth sounded “better than expected with a fair amount of air and space.” The only noted negative was the Advance PlayStream app’s limited functionality — though reviewers noted it was stable, and DLNA-compatible apps like Bubble UPnP can substitute. The headphone output was also praised. — StereoNET

Frequently Asked Questions
Does the PlayStream A7 stream without a separate app on my phone?
Spotify Connect lets you control playback directly from the Spotify app on your phone — no separate app needed. For Qobuz, Tidal, Deezer, and other services, you use the Advance PlayStream app (iOS/Android). The amplifier also supports DLNA, so third-party apps like Bubble UPnP work as controllers. FM and DAB+ radio need no app at all — just an antenna and the remote.
Does the PlayStream A7 have a phono stage for my turntable?
Yes. The A7 includes a configurable phono input that supports moving magnet (MM) cartridges. You can adjust cartridge type and capacitance settings to match your specific cartridge. Moving coil (MC) cartridges at the lowest output levels may need a step-up transformer; check your cartridge specs or give us a call.
Can I connect my television to the PlayStream A7?
Yes — via HDMI ARC. An HDMI ARC connection carries digital audio from your TV to the amplifier automatically, and the A7 can respond to your TV’s volume commands via CEC protocol. This makes the A7 a clean TV audio hub as well as a hi-fi amplifier.
What else do I need?
Speakers and speaker cables. Everything else — amplification, streaming, FM/DAB tuner, phono stage, digital inputs — is built in. Bluetooth requires the optional X-FTB01 or X-FTB02 module.
