AC-14SE MKII C7 Puts Cardas Copper in a C7 Cable
A power cable carries the last few feet of AC from the wall into a component. It can't add power a component doesn't draw, but a poorly shielded one lets noise ride in on that current.
Pangea's AC-14SE MKII C7 centers on a large-gauge solid Cardas Grade One Copper conductor, joined by a medium-gauge solid OFC conductor and six Litz conductors in designer Jay Victor's patented geometry, terminated for the two-pin C7 inlet.
Cardas Grade One Copper at the Core
Pangea builds the large-gauge center conductor of AC-14SE MKII from solid Cardas Grade One Copper. Around it, Pangea adds one medium-gauge solid OFC conductor and six Litz conductors, in a design Pangea attributes to Jay Victor.
George Cardas, the designer behind Cardas Audio's own conductors, said of the Cardas Grade One Copper used in this cable: “the most amazing audio conductor I have ever experienced. It is quite simply the best copper on the planet.”
Silver-Plated Shield, Solid Gold-Plated Contacts
A braided shield of silver-plated copper wraps the conductor bundle, and the cable terminates in solid-blade 24k gold-plated copper contacts inside two-shot molded connector bodies, which Pangea says protect vital AC connections from oxidation and corrosion. Outside diameter runs 12mm.
The Connectors, Explained
AC-14SE MKII C7 ends in a Female C7 connector, the two-pin unpolarized inlet used on double-insulated source components, and a Male NEMA 5-15 plug for the wall end, in 14-gauge construction.
Who Is This Power Cable Best For?
- Your component's inlet is the two-pin C7 shape, common on streamers and outboard DACs — AC-14SE MKII C7 is built specifically for that connector
- You want Cardas Grade One Copper in the signal path without buying a full Cardas cable — that conductor is the center of this Pangea design
- You want a silver-plated braided shield against RF and EM interference — that shield is standard on the SE MKII build
- You want gold-plated contacts that resist oxidation and corrosion for years — the two-shot molded connector bodies are built specifically to protect against that
- Your component uses a three-pin C13 inlet instead of C7 — Pangea AC-14XL MKII is the matching Pangea cable for that connector; check your component's inlet before ordering
How Does It Connect to Your System?
Plug the C7 end into the inlet on your streamer, phono preamp or outboard DAC, and the NEMA 5-15 male end into a wall outlet or power conditioner outlet.
Then power up the system as usual. Other and longer lengths available. Call for prices.
Pairs Well With
A power cable is one link in the chain from the wall to your gear. It usually joins these categories.
- Power Conditioners — filter the whole circuit; the cable feeds the last few feet after it
- Integrated Amplifiers — the high-current load most power cables are built to feed
- Stereo Amplifiers — another high-current destination for the heavier gauges in this range
- Digital-to-Analog Converters — a low-current source component that still benefits from clean, quiet AC
Frequently Asked Questions
Why does shielding matter on an AC cable?
Pangea builds its power cables to keep radio-frequency and electromagnetic noise from riding in on the AC line and reaching sensitive circuits. A ground wire without that shielding can act like an antenna, pulling in exactly the noise a power cable is supposed to keep out.
Do power cables wear out?
Every metal conductor oxidizes over time; it is unavoidable chemistry, not a defect. What varies is the rate. Denser, better-shielded conductors with quality plating oxidize far more slowly, so a well-made cable performs the same way for years instead of drifting.
Will this affect my system's ground safety?
No change to your safety ground. Every cable in this line keeps the full three-conductor path, hot, neutral and ground, exactly as building code requires. What differs from a stock cord is conductor quality and shielding, not the wiring topology.
Is there a step up?
AudioQuest NRG-Z2 C7 is the upgrade path we recommend from AC-14SE MKII C7. It moves to AudioQuest's Perfect-Surface Copper+ conductors in the same C7 termination.
