What You Need to Know
What Is the Furman IT-Reference 15i?
The Furman IT-Reference 15i is a power conditioner. That means it cleans and protects the AC power coming from your wall before it reaches your audio and video gear. It is the top model in Furman’s Reference line.
Furman has built power gear for recording studios, film, and broadcast for over 40 years. In those places, power problems are not allowed. The IT-Reference 15i brings that same studio-grade power to your home theater or hi-fi. It has 11 outlets and a 15-amp rating, and it even has a small isolation transformer inside that feeds two special outlets with extra-clean power for video gear.
Why It Matters for Your System
Your gear can only sound and look as good as the power feeding it. Noisy power can add hum, hiss, or a soft, washed-out picture. The IT-Reference 15i is built to clean that up.
Discrete Symmetrical Power. This is Furman’s special trick for video. Two outlets get balanced, ultra-low-noise power from a built-in isolation transformer. This breaks “ground loops” (a common cause of hum and on-screen noise) so a TV or projector is not polluted by noise from, say, a Blu-ray player.
LiFT (Linear Filtering Technology). Furman’s filtering smooths out AC noise evenly across a wide range. The result is a lower noise floor, so quiet details come through and the picture looks cleaner.
Power Factor Technology. The IT-Reference 15i stores a big reserve of current — over 55 amps of peak charge. When your amplifier suddenly needs a lot of power for a big, dynamic moment, that reserve is ready, so the music keeps its impact.
SMP and EVS surge protection. Series Multi-Stage Protection (SMP) guards your gear from spikes and surges without wearing out, and it does not dump noise to your ground line. Extreme Voltage Shutdown (EVS) goes one step further: if the incoming voltage climbs dangerously high, the unit shuts off to protect everything plugged into it.
What Reviewers Say
Reviewers describe the IT-Reference 15i as a serious, well-built piece of gear that quietly does its job.
A reviewer at Home Theater Shack (Dave, 2012) gave the IT-Reference 15i a 4.5-out-of-5 overall score and said he could “heartily recommend” it. He noted it does not add its own sound; instead, it lowers the noise floor so you can finally hear what your equipment is truly capable of.
Who It’s Best For
You have a premium home theater with a TV or projector and want a cleaner, quieter picture.
You want to break ground-loop hum between your video and audio gear.
You run power amps and want a big current reserve ready for dynamic moments.
You want top-tier surge protection that will not wear out over time.
You want to power and protect a whole rack of gear from one well-built unit.
How It Connects to Your System
You plug the IT-Reference 15i into a 15-amp wall outlet, then plug your gear into its outlets. It has 11 outlets in total: 2 special “symmetrical power” outlets fed by the isolation transformer (best for your TV, projector, or other video gear), 4 Power Factor outlets (great for power amps and subwoofers), 4 linearly filtered outlets, and 1 handy outlet on the front.
On the back you will also find surge-protected coaxial (cable/satellite) and telephone connections, so those lines are protected too. A master power switch on the front lets you turn everything on or off at once.
The IT-Reference 15i is a complete unit and works on its own. If you want help planning which gear goes in which outlet, give us a call — we are happy to walk you through it.

Professional Reviews
Home Theater Shack — reviewer Dave — 2012: The IT-Reference 15i earned a 4.5-out-of-5 overall score, with 5 stars for fit and finish. The reviewer praised its serious, dense build and said he could “heartily recommend” it — explaining that by lowering the noise floor and removing hum, it lets your equipment perform to its full potential.

Frequently Asked Questions
What does a power conditioner actually do?
It cleans and protects the AC power going to your gear. The IT-Reference 15i lowers electrical noise, breaks ground-loop hum, keeps a big current reserve ready for your amps, and shields everything from surges. The payoff is a quieter background and better-protected equipment.
Which outlets should I use for what?
Plug your TV, projector, or other video gear into the two symmetrical power outlets for the cleanest, ground-loop-free power. Use the Power Factor outlets for power amps and subwoofers, and the linearly filtered outlets for everything else. Give us a call if you would like help planning it out.
Do I need anything else to use it?
No extra box is needed. You plug it into a 15-amp wall outlet and plug your gear into it. It even has surge-protected coaxial and telephone connections built in.
Will it change the sound of my system?
It does not add its own sound. As a Home Theater Shack reviewer put it, the IT-Reference 15i lowers the noise floor so you can hear what your equipment is truly capable of. A quieter background means more detail and dynamic range.
How is the IT-Reference 15i different from the IT-Reference 20i?
The 15i is the 15-amp version, ideal for most home setups on a standard circuit. The 20i is the 20-amp version for the largest, most demanding systems. If you are not sure which one fits your gear and wiring, give us a call.
What is “Extreme Voltage Shutdown”?
EVS is a safety feature. If the incoming voltage climbs to a dangerous level, the unit automatically shuts off power to protect itself and everything plugged into it. When the voltage returns to normal, you are protected from that risk.
