Ultra-Compact Sub with "Extension, Slam, and Musical Subtlety"
It's barely bigger than a 12-1/2" cube. But the SuperSub X is a whale of a subwoofer. If you're short on space but have a huge hunger for home theater thrills, this is the compact sub for you.
Did we say "compact?" This mind-blowing gem is ultra-compact. It gets its movie magic might from a patented inertially-balanced driver array that features two horizontally-opposed 8" ultra-long-throw active drivers and two vertically-opposed 10-1/2" x 9-1/2" planar back-wave-driven radiators, driven by a 1400 watt Class D Digital amplifier.
Those 8" drivers use computer-optimized ultra-stiff fiber cones and massive high-gauss magnet assemblies, contributing to the powerful room-shaking bass and superior transient performance for exceptional detail. The quadratic planar infrasonic radiators perform like a well-tuned transmission line but with superior transient performance and control. Pressure-coupled loading extends usable bass performance to the infrasonic region.
"It's a Bargain to Boot"
"GoldenEar's SuperSub X is a speaker of estimable extension, slam, and musical subtlety. The fact that it's a bargain to boot only sweetens the deal," raves Neil Gader in The Absolute Sound magazine. "To say I was impressed greatly diminishes the impact this subwoofer had on me. It will mate superbly with a wide range of compacts and smaller floorstanders and fit into almost any room."
"A Thrillingly Ballistic Performer"
"The SuperSub X is a thrillingly ballistic performer that hits far harder than a box with these compact dimensions has any right to," reports Ned Selley, Home Cinema Choice. "It can create bone-jarring impacts, and goes deep enough to find soundtrack secrets that can be overlooked. It's clear that GoldenEar has worked extremely hard to ensure that its vast power output is contained and used to good advantage, and it's easy to live with day-to-day."
Ultra-High Performance
GoldenEar's SuperSub Series consists of ultra-high performance compact subwoofers which incorporate many recently developed unique and advanced technologies and components. The goal was to create beautifully styled, finely finished, reasonably sized subwoofers that could generate very low frequency pressure waves of extremely high amplitude, while delivering accurate and precise low frequency performance that is both highly impactful and extremely musical.
To achieve this, GoldenEar incorporated a unique, patented 360-degree dual-plane inertially-balanced driver and sub-bass radiator topology, combined with a very advanced electronics package. With two active drivers separated horizontally in space, as well as two passive radiators separated vertically, the driver-to-room coupling is distributed much more smoothly, for in-room bass performance that can't typically be achieved with a single subwoofer.
Powerful Electronics Package
The electronics package that drives the fully balanced array is a 1600-watt (for SuperSub XXL) or 1400-watt (for SuperSub X) Class D digital amplifier based on the design originally developed for the GoldenEar Triton One tower. Advanced features include discrete multi-band limiting, phase perfect equalization, fully balanced and advanced reconstruction filters, and a strong focus on keeping latency to an absolute minimum.
Sonically, the result is rock-solid bass response that is both exceptionally fast and tuneful for music and extraordinarily deep and powerful for effortlessly reproducing the most extreme movie sound effects.
